‘Vocabulary’
- Verbatim (adv.)
Meaning: in exactly the same words as were used originally. (प्रतिशब्द)
Synonyms: word for word, exactly, identically
Antonyms: inaccurately, inexactly
Sentence: You can’t just copy the encyclopedia article verbatim for your report—that’s plagiarism.
- Immured (verb)
Meaning: enclose or confine (someone) against their will. (क़ैद करना)
Synonyms: caged, imprisoned, enclosed
Antonyms: free, loose, unbound
Sentence: He was immured in a dark room.
- Snazzy (adj.)
Meaning: stylish and attractive. (अत्यधिक आकर्षित)
Synonyms: stylish, smart, attractive
Antonyms: simple, unadorned, unfashionable
Sentence: Paula’s wearing a very snazzy pair of shoes!
- Miscellany (noun)
Meaning: a group or collection of different items; a mixture. (मिश्रण)
Synonyms: assortment, mixture, melange
Sentence: The museum houses a fascinating miscellany of nautical treasures.
- Offing (noun)
Meaning: time that is to come (आने वाला समय)
Synonyms: by-and-by, future, hereafter
Antonyms: past, posterity
Sentence: Major changes are in the offing for the company.
- Prevaricate (verb)
Meaning: to make a statement one knows to be untrue (झूठ बोलना)
Synonyms: lie, fib, equivocate
Antonyms: testify, assert
Sentence: He seemed to prevaricate when journalists asked pointed questions.
- Stratification (noun)
Meaning: the arrangement or classification of something into different groups. (श्रेणीविभाजन)
Synonyms: categorization, categorizing, classifying
Sentence: She was concerned about the stratification of American society.
- Lambent (adj.)
Meaning: (of light or fire) glowing, gleaming, or flickering with a soft radiance. (उज्ज्वल)
Synonyms: beaming, luminous, glowing
Antonyms: dim, dull, dark
Sentence: The lambent flames from our campfire cast a comforting glow.
- Vouchsafe (verb)
Meaning: give or grant (something) to (someone) in a gracious or condescending manner. (अनुदान करना)
Synonyms: grant, confer on, concede
Antonyms: hinder, impede, refuse
Sentence: He vouchsafed the information that the meeting had been postponed.
- Belie (verb)
Meaning: disguise or contradict. (झुठलाना)
Synonyms: explode, contradict, disprove
Antonyms: allow, approve, agree
Sentence: Her energy and youthful good looks belie her 65 years.
