‘Vocabulary’
- Impermanence (noun)
Meaning: the state or fact of lasting for only a limited period of time. (अनस्थिरता)
Synonyms: ephemerality, evanescence, fleetingness
Antonyms: endurance, permanence, permanency
Sentence: Change, impermanence is characteristic of life.
- Immaculate (adj.)
Meaning: (especially of a person or their clothes) perfectly clean, neat, or tidy. (निर्मल)
Synonyms: clean, spotless, pristine
Antonyms: coarse, dirty, filthy
Sentence: The property is in immaculate condition.
- Obliteration (noun)
Meaning: the action or fact of obliterating or being obliterated; total destruction. (विस्मृति)
Synonyms: eradication, erasing, erasure
Antonyms: raising, regeneracy, refurbishment
Sentence: The result of these invasions was the near obliteration of ancient Egypt.
- Abode (noun)
Meaning: a place of residence; a house or home. (निवास)
Synonyms: home, house, residence
Sentence: They established their permanent abode here.
- Gusto (noun)
Meaning: enjoyment or vigor in doing something; zest. (उत्साह)
Synonyms: enthusiasm, relish, appetite
Antonyms: lethargy, listlessness, sluggishness
Sentence: The orchestra played with a winning combination of gusto and precision.
- Contrite (adj.)
Meaning: feeling or expressing remorse or penitence; affected by guilt. (पछताया हुआ)
Synonyms: remorseful, repentant, penitent
Antonyms: impenitent, remorseless, unapologetic
Sentence: She was contrite the morning after her angry outburst.
- Narcissism (adj.)
Meaning: excessive interest in or admiration of oneself and one’s physical appearance. (अहंकार)
Synonyms: vanity, egoism, self-admiration
Antonyms: altruism, generosity, unselfishness
Sentence: Humbleness is productive, narcissism is destructive.
- Elucidative (adj.)
Meaning: serving to explain (स्पष्ट)
Synonyms: exegetical, explanative, explanatory
Sentence: Most editions of Shakespeare’s plays now have elucidative footnotes to help the modern reader.
- Phalanx (noun)
Meaning: formal a large collection of people, animals, or things often placed close together (झुंड)
Synonyms: brigade, crew, platoon
Antonyms: individual, single
Sentence: A solid phalanx of armed guards stood in front of the castle.
- Occlude (verb)
Meaning: stop, close up, or obstruct (an opening, orifice, or passage). (रोक देना)
Synonyms: block, obstruct, stop
Antonyms: clear, free, unblock
Sentence: A blood clot had occluded a major artery in his body.
