The MNRE organized “run for sun” Marathon to celebrate International Sun Day
To celebrate the International Sun Day on 3rd May 2024, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India organized the Run for Sun marathon at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
“Run for Sun” Marathon:
The main objective behind the marathon is to spread awareness about the important role of solar energy in decreasing climate change and encouraging a cleaner future for the World.
The “Run for Sun” Marathon consists of 3km and 5km races. It was organized at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium New Delhi on 3rd May 2024.
Other activities:
There are some other activities that also happened to celebrate the International Sun Day. These activities are as follow:
- Solar Stops in six cities to educate citizens on significance of solar energy
Under this activity there are 12 amazing installations that have been set up in the six cities such as Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Vadodara, Guwahati, Varanasi and Chennai to educate people the importance of solar energy.
- Solart: All-India Inter-School Solar Art Competition
The MNRE also organized Solart, an all India inter school solar Art Competition to encourage the students to acknowledge the importance of solar energy.
International Sun Day:
International Sun Day is celebrated on May 3rd each year to honor the sun, which is vital for life on Earth. It’s a day to appreciate the sun’s role in providing light, warmth, and energy.
International Sun Day was first celebrated in 2018, initiated by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of the sun for life on Earth.
It’s celebrated worldwide with various events, activities, and educational programs aimed at highlighting the significance of the sun in different cultures and societies.

Solar energy has significant importance to mitigate climate change. Solar energy is a renewable source of power, meaning it is abundant and inexhaustible as long as the sun continues to shine, unlike finite resources such as fossil fuels.
