Eligibility Criteria 

Before applying, it’s crucial to ensure you meet all the eligibility requirements set by the TNPSC. The criteria are based on educational qualifications, age limits, and certain physical standards.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications as of the date of the notification (September 3, 2025):

• A National Trade Certificate (NTC) or a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) awarded by the National Council for Training and Vocational Trade.
• The certificate must be in one of the following trades:
  • Electrician
  • Wireman
  • Electrical Trade under the Centre of Excellence Scheme

Important Note: Candidates with higher qualifications but without the specified NTC/NAC in the mentioned trades are not eligible for this post.

Age Limit (as on July 1, 2025):

The minimum age for all candidates is 18 years. The upper age limits vary by category:

• General Category (‘Others’): Should not have completed 32 years.
• BC (OBCM), BCMs, MBCs/DCs: Should not have completed 34 years.
• SCs, SC(A)s, STs: Should not have completed 37 years.
• No Maximum Age Limit: For candidates from BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A), ST categories and Destitute Widows of all communities who possess a qualification higher than the Minimum General Educational Qualification (i.e., SSLC).
• Age relaxation is also applicable for Persons with Benchmark Disability, Ex-Servicemen, and Apprenticeship candidates as per government rules.

Physical / Medical Requirement:

Selected candidates must meet the prescribed physical and medical standards. The required standard of vision is “Standard III or better.” Candidates with defective vision will need to produce an Eye Fitness certificate from a qualified government eye specialist.

The post of Field Assistant comes under Pay Level 2 of the pay matrix, with a scale of ₹18,800 – ₹59,900. Let’s break this down. Your initial basic pay will be ₹18,800. However, your total monthly salary (in-hand) will be much higher. It will include several allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA), which are revised periodically by the government. These allowances significantly boost the take-home pay. The selection process is designed to test both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the candidates. It consists of three main stages:

1. Written Examination (Computer Based Test)
2. Physical Test
3. Certificate Verification

Tier 1: Computer Based Test (CBT)

This is the first and most crucial stage. The exam is divided into two papers:

• Paper I (3 hours):
  • Part A: Tamil Eligibility Test (100 questions, 150 marks – qualifying nature).
  • Part B: General Studies (75 questions).
  • Part C: Aptitude and Mental Ability (25 questions).
  • Total marks for Part B + Part C are 150.
• Paper II (3 hours):
  • Subject Paper (Trade: Electrician and Wireman – 200 questions, 300 marks).

The final merit list will be prepared based on the total marks obtained in Paper I (Part B & C) and Paper II, which amounts to a total of 450 marks. Negative marking is not mentioned in the notification.

Tier 2: Physical Test

Candidates who qualify in the written exam will be called for the Physical Test. This stage tests the physical fitness required for the job and includes three activities:

1. Pole Climbing and Cross Arm Fixing: Climb a 9-meter pole, fix a 3-phase cross arm at the top, and safely climb down within 8 minutes.
2. Rope Plaiting: Plaiting a rope with an AAAC conductor and fixing it on a creeper within 2 minutes.
3. Weight Carrying: Lift and carry 3 V-Cross Arms (approx. 35 kg) for a distance of 100 meters in one minute without dropping them.

Tier 3: Certificate Verification

Candidates who clear the physical test will undergo a final certificate verification process to confirm their eligibility claims.
