Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has passed away at the age of 92 yesterday (i.e. 06 February, 2022). She was tested positive for Covid-19 and admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8. She was under observation and treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks. After showing signs of improvement in her health condition it was deteriorated.

About Lata Mangeshkar:

She was born as Hema Mangeshkar on 28th September 1929 in then Indore state under British India. She was the eldest daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar who is a Marathi and Konkani musician. She is very famous as the ‘Nightingale of India’ due to a treasure trove of songs vocalized in her mellifluous voice, sung across a career that lasted for over 70 years.

Singing achievements:

She is considered as one of the greatest Indian playback singers. Her solos and immortal duets with Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh, along with a legion of other prominent Indian singers, are among Hindi cinemas most memorable songs.

Lata ji served as an MP (Member of Parliament) from 1999 to 2005.

Awards & Honors:

Lata ji has the lovers of her melodious voice in all over the world. She was declared for the honour of being the first-ever Indian to perform in the prestigious Royal Albert Hall, London.

The government of France conferred her with the country’s highest civilian award ‘the Officer of the Legion of Honour’ in 2007.

She was bestowed with Padma Bhusan in 1969, Padma Vibusan in 1999 and Bharat Ratna in 2001 by Government of India.

She was awarded Dadashaheb Phalke Award in 1989 and Maharashtra Bhushan in 1997.

Guinness world record:

The Guinness Book of Records had named Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artist. But after it the claim was contended by Mohammed Rafi.
