Vikrant : India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier
Recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commissioned India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier named Vikrant to the Indian Navy. There were many navy veterans and officers present in the commissioning ceremony along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
By commissioning India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, India showcases its achievements of the ATMA NIRBHAR BHARAT policy and MAKE IN INDIA initiative. These are one of the great policies of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that for a long period of time , the security of the Indo-Pacific ocean has been ignored but after the commissioning of India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier and the most complex ship that was ever built in India,this area became the first defence priority of India.
He also mentioned the working of its Government in the field of approving more investment in the defence sector and increasing the capability of the Indian defence sector. The commission of Vikrant also shows the ability of India to know for its self-reliance initiatives.

The first ever aircraft carrier of India was vikrant which played a great role in the war of 1971. After that India also commissioned two more aircraft carriers from the UK and Russia. The erstwhile viraat was from the UK and INS Vikramaditya was from Russia and it is currently working in the Indian Navy.
Furthermore he stated that in the former period of time it was possible only for the developed countries to build such a complex ship and a super dedicated aircraft carrier but now India has taken a step forward to become the self reliant country and has made its own indigenous aircraft carrier named Vikrant.

Now India has become one of those countries who have the capability to build an aircraft carrier with a displacement of over 40,000 tons. These countries are China,The UK, The US, Russia, France including India. The total amount which needed to build Vikrant was 20,000 crore and it took 17 years to make Vikrant, India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier.
76 percent of this aircraft was built by indigenous contents and its critical technology was important to make such an aircraft carrier imported from other countries. It has an endurance of 75,00 nautical miles and around 22,00 compartments. These compartments have the capacity of 16,00 crew members. It also has a medical facility with new technologies and advancements.
