World Sparrow Day is observed in all over the world every year on March 20 to raise awareness about the bird.

Celebrating 20^th March as World Sparrow Day with an aim to raise public awareness about the house sparrow and other common birds in urban environments and the threats they face.

World Sparrow Day is catering a platform where people are working on the conservation of the House Sparrow and other common birds can network, collaborate and exchange conservation ideas.

History of World Sparrow Day:

The celebration of World Sparrow Day is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society (NFS) of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organizations across the world.

The idea behind the celebration World Sparrow Day went up during an informal discussion over tea at the Nature Forever Society’s office.

World had celebrated the first World Sparrow Day in 2010 in different parts of the world.

Theme of World Sparrow Day 2023:

The theme for World Sparrows Day for the year of 2023 is “I Love Sparrows.”

This year’s theme is highlighting the importance of cherishing and protecting these small birds.

The house sparrow has been listed as the Least Concern on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Population of Sparrow:

House sparrows were among the most common bird species saw in urban cities across the world.

The population of house sparrows has been going down drastically in many of these cities over the past 25 years.

Passer domesticus is the scientific name of the tiny house sparrow which is possibly one of the earliest birds you can remember from childhood.

Indian state Delhi had declared the house sparrow as the state bird in 2012 as part of a massive campaign to save and raise awareness about the species.
