8th March is celebrated as International Women’s Day every year worldwide to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The event celebrates women’s achievements and raises awareness about women’s equality and lobbies for accelerated gender parity.


International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time in 1911 with the aim to highlight and recognize the achievements of women in different field while also bringing attention to important issues including gender discrimination that extant even today.

Theme for the year 2022:

International Women’s Day is celebrated in 2022 with the theme of “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

Why this theme: Promoting gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. Women are growingly being recognized as more susceptible to climate change impacts than men.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other leaders has passed their greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022.

Prime Minister’s greetings:

PM Narendra Modi greeted through tweeter that “On Women’s Day, I salute our Nari Shakti and their accomplishments in diverse fields. The Government of India will keep focusing on women empowerment through its various schemes with an emphasis on dignity as well as opportunity.”

Programme for Women’s Day:

PM Narendra Modi also gave information about the seminar that is going to be addressed in the evening as part of programme being held in Kutch which highlights the contributions of women saints to our society.

The focus of the programme will be on different arena of culture, the various welfare measures of the Centre and more.

Today many organizations like colleges and institutions across the world is celebrating International Women’s Day by holding public speeches, rallies, exhibitions, workshops and seminars on themes and concepts, debates, quiz competitions and lectures.
