ADB and Government of India signed $200mn loan for Uttarakhand

Asian Development Bank and Government of India signed a $200mn loan for Uttarakhand to its climate resilient power system development projects. The project aims to modernize the power system of the capital city Dehradun by using underground cable comprising 537 kilometers of subterranean cables. This is an advanced and climate resilient power system.

ADB has approved a $200mn loan to the state of Uttarakhand for this ambitious project. To make the Dehradun city a climate resilient power network infrastructure hub, ADB has joined hands with the Indian government by providing a $200mn loan.

More about the agreement:

The two signatory of this loan agreement were Ms Juhi Mukherjee, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance of Indian government and Deputy Country Director and Officer-in-Charge of ADB’s India Resident Mission, Mr. Hoe Yun Jeong for another counterpart.

The funds of $200mn from ADB is going to help to build a climate resilient power system in Uttarakhand and to achieve the state’s goal of 24×7 power supply to its people. The Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Power System Development Project is an ambitious and fruitful project for the state.

About Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Power System Development Project:

Under the project, it is expected to provide modernized power network infrastructure to Uttarakhand by 537 km subterranean cables,354 ring main units, and 99 compact substations around the city.

The Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Power System Development Project is also beneficial for the women self help groups in hilly areas. After the successful completion of the project, they will get access to Renewable Energy sources and energy efficient equipment so that they can improve their livelihoods.

There is another funding of $2mn for training, activities related to awareness rising and for livelihoods enhancement from the The Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific. It is also funded by the Asia Development Bank.
