Ayushman Bharat 2.0: Indian Health Infrastructure
The Government of India is working out to roll out Ayushman Bharat version 2.0. Ayushman Bharat 2.0 will cover to 400 million middle-income citizens.
The government is testing several options while considering the scheme’s financial implications. In consideration with the financial burden, the government is also contemplating the challenges of implementing the plan.
Coverage of the scheme:
Other changed options will be provided with a similar cover of Rs 5 lakh as provided under Ayushman Bharat. The scheme is also expanding alternatives to get a partial contribution or a top-up from individuals covered under the scheme.
The government is also consulting with health insurance companies to make the plan sustainable.
Even Government is trying to design an economically viable package that provides basic medical coverage at a reasonable cost.
Challenges for private insurance companies:
The private companies are searching to design a new dedicated product to cater to this segment even though the government insures them of high volume of coverage to make it viable.
NITI Aayog has already carried multiple rounds of consultations with the insurance companies, and the draft policy regarding the same could come up soon for consideration.

Coverage: Rs. 5 lakh per family per year
This scheme is beneficial to 110 million poor families for their health without need of money.
It provides up to Rs 5 lakh of secondary and tertiary healthcare coverage to the underprivileged sections of society.
The scheme is fully financed by the central government.
