Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to present Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards

  • Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has presented Agriculture Infrastructure Fund Awards in New Delhi.
  • The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund was launched two years ago, under the ambitious Aatmanirbhar Bharat Package, as a dedicated Central Government scheme.
  • It provides a medium-long term credit facility for investment in the creation of post-harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets.
  • AIR Correspondent reports that as of now, out of 23,000 plus applications received on the integrated portal of Agri Infra Fund, 13,700 applicants have been sanctioned over Rs 10,000 crore. The sanctioned projects cover warehouses, assaying units, primary processing units, custom hiring centres, sorting and grading units, and cold-store and cold-chain projects.

Mastercard replaced Paytm as BCCI’s title sponsor

  • Mastercard has replaced Paytm as the title sponsor for all international and domestic cricket matches organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
  • Paytm held the rights till the end of 2023.
  • Mastercard will reportedly be assigned the rights till 2023, as per the original terms of the Paytm deal and will continue to pay Rs 3.8 Crore per match. Paytm, on the other hand, will have to pay a re-assignment fee of around Rs 16.3 Crore 5% of the original deal value (Rs 326.8 Cr).
  • Paytm and BCCI first inked a contract for the title sponsorship in 2015 for Rs 203 Crore for four years (i.e., Rs 2.4 Cr per match). The deal had been last renewed in August 2019 for up to March 2023 and Paytm would be placing a winning bid of Rs 3.80 Crore per match- a 58% increase from the previous deal.

IIT-M launched ‘Nilekani Centre’ to promote Indian language technology

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched the ‘Nilekani Centre at Al4Bharat‘ to promote the Indian language technology.
  • This Centre, inaugurated by Nandan Nilekani (co-founder of Infosys), is being supported by Rohini and Nandan Nilekani with a grant of Rs 36 crore through Nilekani Philanthropies.
  • The Al4Bharat was set up as an initiative of IIT Madras to build open-source language Al for Indian languages.

Sports Department of Punjab to hold ‘Khed Mela’ from August 29

  • The Sports Department of Punjab is going to organize ‘Punjab Khed Mela.
  • In the event, 30 sports will be held in six groups under 14 to 60 years veteran with an aim to identify talent, make a conducive environment for sports and increase health awareness.
  • Apart from the previously held under-14, under-17 and 17 to 25 age groups for the first time, there will also be competitions in the 25 to 40 year, 40 to 50 year and 50-to-60-year age groups.
  • The Mela will be held from block to the state level and will kick start on the occasion of the National Sports Day on the 29th of August.
  • The winners of the recognized sports competitions will be able to get grading in their respective sports, while the state-level winners will also be given cash prizes worth five crore rupees and certificates.
  • The competitions will be held in different sports disciplines including Athletics, Weightlifting, Badminton, Cricket, Cycling, Shooting, Archery, Bodybuilding, Fencing, Gymnastics, Rowing, Football, Softball, Hockey, Netball, Handball, Kick Boxing, Judo, Archery, Kabaddi, Gatka, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, Swimming, Wrestling and Tug of War.

Tamil Nadu government launched ‘Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme’

  • Tamil Nadu government has issued an order to implement the first phase of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme at 1,545 government primary schools.
  • It will benefit over 1.14 lakh children in Classes I-V during 2022-23.
  • The cost would be Rs. 33.56 crores.
  • Every student is to be provided a 150–500 gram breakfast with sambar with vegetables. On two days, the breakfast will be made of millets.

  • Savitri Jindal (72, Indian) has become the richest woman in Asia with USD 11.3 billion fortune, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

PM Modi inaugurated first All India DLSAs Meet

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first All India District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) Meet in New Delhi.
  • The first-ever national level meet of DLSAs is being organized by National Legal Services Authority.
  • There is a total of 676 DLSAs in the country & in the meeting, they will discuss the ways to bring homogeneity and synchronization across DLSAs.
  • Various legal aid and awareness programmes are run by NALSA through DLSAs and State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs). The DLSAs also contribute towards reducing the burden on courts by regulating Lok Adalats conducted by NALSA.

Chhattisgarh CM launched ‘Mahtari Nyay Rath’ for women’s rights awareness

  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has flagged off the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahtari Nyay Rath‘ with the aim of making the women of the state aware of their constitutional rights & laws.
  • It will travel throughout the state informing people about women’s rights through short films. Nationally recognized instructional short films in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi will be shown on a sizable LED screen.
  • Each chariot will have two lawyers, who will listen to the grievances of women & provide information & advice.

RBI sets deadline for card tokenization to October 1

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released guidelines to ease the transition to new norms on card-on-file (CoF) tokenization and licensing of payment aggregators (PAs) in two separate notifications.
  • While reiterating that with effect from October 1, no entity in the card transaction chain, other than card issuers and card networks, shall store CoF data, the central bank notified two interim measures.
  • Other than the card issuer and the card network, the merchant or its PA involved in settlement can save the CoF data for a maximum period of four days after the transaction date or till the settlement date, whichever is earlier. This data shall be used only for settlement of such transactions, and must be purged thereafter.
  • For handling other post-transaction activities, acquiring banks can continue to store CoF data until January 31, 2023.
  • On guidelines for PAs and payment gateways, the RBI took note of the disruption caused by the pandemic and allowed a fresh window for all PAs existing as on March 17, 2020 to apply for authorization. They will now be allowed to apply by September 30, 2022 and shall have a net worth of Rs 15 crore as on March 31, 2022.
  • They will also be permitted to continue their operations till they receive communication from the RBI regarding the fate of their application. The timeline of 31 March 2023 for achieving a net worth of Rs 25 crore will remain.

Piramal Enterprises gets RBI nod to start NBFC business

  • Piramal Enterprises received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to start non-banking finance company (NBFC) operations.
  • The license is for initiating an NBFC not accepting public deposits.
  • NBFCs are entities that provide bank-like financial services but don’t hold a banking license & are unregulated.
  • The approval from the RBI comes after the company received clearance of the shareholders to demerge its pharmaceuticals business and simplify its corporate structure.
  • Earlier, the company had acquired Dewan Housing Finance (DHFL) for Rs 34,250 crore. The acquisition will diversify Piramal Enterprises’ loan book towards retail financing by scaling up the retail loan book by up to five times.

  • Canadian scholar Jeffrey Armstrong has received the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Distinguished Indologist award for 2021.
  • Jeffrey Armstrong was presented the award in a ceremony by Manish, India’s consul-general in Vancouver.
  • This award has been conferred upon Armstrong ‘in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the study of India’s history & culture’.

  • The tournament is scheduled to be held across 3 cities – Bhubaneswar, Goa and Mumbai from October 11 to 30, 2022.
  • It will be the seventh edition of the tournament.
  • It will be the first time that India hosts a FIFA women’s football tournament.
