Odisha govt signed MoU with Save LIFE Foundation to improve road safety

  • Odisha Government signed an MoU with Delhi-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Save LIFE Foundation (SLF), to improve road safety in the state.
  • Aim: To improve road safety and emergency medical care, and reduce accidental deaths on roads significantly in the next three years. MoU aims to reduce accidental road deaths around 30-40 percent in 3 years.

PM Modi laid foundation stone of UP Defence Industrial Corridor project in Jhansi

  • PM Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Rs 400 crores worth Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor project in Jhansi.
  • It was launched on the concluding three-day ‘Rashtra Raksha Samarpan Parv’, organized by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) along with the Uttar Pradesh government.
  • UP Defence Industrial Corridor has nodes at Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, and Kanpur. A plant for the propulsion system for Anti-Tank Guided Missiles has also been set up.

UP’s 1st Anti-Air Pollution Tower inaugurated in Noida

  • Union Minister of Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey has inaugurated first air pollution control tower (APCT) of Uttar Pradesh in Noida. This indigenously developed APCT will help to mitigate the rising air pollution problem in the city.
  • APCT prototype has been developed by state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), between the DND flyway and the slip road to Noida Expressway.

  • The Working Group on Digital Lending including Lending through Online Platforms and Mobile Apps, which was constituted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has submitted its report.
  • On January 13, 2021, the RBI had set a WG on Digital Lending including Lending through Online Platforms and Mobile Apps, with Jayant Kumar Dash, Executive Director, RBI, as the Chairman to study all aspects of digital lending activities in the regulated financial sector as well as by unregulated players.
  • In the near term, the WG suggested setting up a nodal agency in consultation with stakeholders to verify the technological credentials of the Digital Lending Apps (DLAs) of the balance sheet lenders and Lending Service Providers (LSPs) operating in the digital lending ecosystem.

NIPL signed MoU with Dubai’s Network International

NIPL signed MoU with Dubai’s Network International

  • NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of National Payment Corporation of India signed an MoU with Network International, a digital commerce company based in Dubai, to discuss their collaboration on acceptance of the UPI in the UAE. 
  • The proposed collaboration will benefit Indian travelers visiting the UAE. It will allow them to make payments through UPI-based mobile applications leveraging the Network’s trusted payment infrastructure.
  • The proposed rollout of UPI mobile payment solutions on Network International’s merchant network is expected to start in the 1st quarter of 2022.

AIIB approved USD 150 Million loan for implementing SUSP in Chennai Metropolitan Area

  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a USD 150 million loan to the Indian Government of India.
  • The loan amount will be used for the implementation of the Sustainable Urban Services Program (SUSP) for the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
  • The AIIB has approved around 29 projects for India worth USD 6.8 billion till 2021. Now, India has become one of the largest beneficiaries of AIIB.

  • Electric two-wheeler mobility platform eBikeGo has acquired the rights to manufacture the smart electric trike ‘Velocipedo’ of a leading Spanish automotive company Torrot in India.
  • With this, eBikeGo now plans to enter the luxury electric three-wheeler industry. It aims to manufacture these scooters at its factory in Pune. Velocipedo will be produced in three basic models — a personal vehicle, Trick Taxi and a cargo vehicle.

  • Novelist Beryl Thanga has received the 12th Manipur State Award for Literature 2020 for his book – Ei Amadi Adungeigi Ithat’ (I and the then island).
  • Manipur Governor La Ganesan conferred the award on the 65-year-old writer for his novel published in 2015.  The award carries a plaque, citation,  3 lakh (in cheque), and a shawl.

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has released the Swachh Survekshan 2021. President Ram Nath Kovind has announced the cities names and honored the municipal corporations working under the Swachhta Mission (Cleanliness Mission). In the 2021 edition of Swachh Survekshan, 4320 cities of the country participated. In this survey, 342 cities have got star ratings for cleanliness (Swachh).
  • Indore city has been declared the cleanest city of India for the 5th time in a row. While Surat (Gujarat) has been ranked second and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) has been ranked third. Chhattisgarh retained the first position in the state
  • Varanasi, has been adjudged the “cleanest Ganga town” while Bihar’s Munger and Patna have been ranked second and third in the category.

Jason Mott won 2021 National Book Award for fiction for his novel “Hell of a Book”

  • The 72nd edition of the National Book Award was organized as a virtual event by the National Book Foundation. Jason Mott won the 2021 National Book Award for fiction for his novel “Hell of a Book”, a narrative about a black author’s adventure while traveling around in a book tour.
  • Tiya Miles has won the 2021 National Book Award for nonfiction for her book titled “All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake”. Malinda Lo has won the 2021 National Book Award for young people’s literature for her book titled “Last Night at the Telegraph Club”, a story of same-sex, cross-cultural love set in the 1950s.

Russia successfully tests fired Hypersonic Cruise Missile ‘Zircon’ & Anti-Satellite Missile ‘Nudol’

  • Russian Navy successfully test-fired the ‘Zircon’ Hypersonic Cruise Missile from Frigate – Admiral Gorshkov warship, which rightly hit the test target placed in the Russian Arctic waters.
  • Russia destroyed its own satellite in low-earth orbit using an Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile named ‘Nudol’, which led to the formation of a cloud of space debris that could potentially destroy other orbiting satellites & the International Space Station (ISS).

Prakash Padukone selected for BWF lifetime achievement award 2021

  • Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone has been selected for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for 2021 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council.
  • The former world no 1 has already been honoured with the Badminton Association of India’s (BAI) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Padukone is the first-ever Indian to win a medal at World Championships in the 1983 Copenhagen tournament.
  • Apart from him, Devender Singh has been nominated for the Meritorious Service Award.
