SEBI launched ‘Saa₹thi’ mobile app for investor education & awareness

  • Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) launched a mobile app “Saa₹thi” based on investor education in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • The Saa₹thi app aims to create awareness and provide education to investors about the basic concepts of the securities market.
  • It will provide knowledge about KYC (Know Your Customer) process, trading and settlement, mutual funds (MF), market developments, investor grievances redressal mechanism, etc.

ILO’s World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2022 projected global unemployment at 207 million in 2022

  • International Labour Organisation (ILO) released its report titled ‘World Employment and Social Outlook (WESO) Trends 2022’ projecting global unemployment at 207 million in 2022, surpassing its 2019 level (186 million) by 21 million.
  • This rise is due to slow economic recovery and the spread of new COVID-19 variants Delta and Omicron.
  • The global unemployment rate is projected to reach 5.9% in 2022. This figure shows an improvement from 6.2% in 2021 and 6.6% in 2020, but it is still above 5.4% in 2019 (pre-pandemic level).

RIL acquired 54% stake in Addverb Technologies for $132 million

  • Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, the retail unit of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has acquired a 54% stake in Addverb Technologies Private Limited, a Noida based robotics startup, for USD 132 million (~Rs 983 crore).
  • With this investment, RIL has become a strategic partner of Addverb Technologies. This is in line with RIL’s vision to automate its businesses.
  • With this funding, Addverb technology plans to deploy robots across hospitals and airports. Following the funding, Addverb Technologies is valued at USD 270 million.
  • The co-founders of the company hold around 24-25% stake and the remaining stakes are held by Jalaj Dani of Asian Paints.

RBI’s Digital Payment Index: Digital payments rose by 39.6% in Sept 2021

  • The Reserve Bank of India’s Digital Payment Index rose by 39.64% to 304.06 in September 2021 against 217.74 in the year-ago month.
  • It was 270.59 in March 2021. In September 2020, the online transaction measure was 217.74. The index is released in the months of March and September.
  • RBI has introduced Digital Payments Index in January 2021 with March 2018 as the base year to capture the extent of digitization of payments across the country. This means that the DPI score for March 2018 is set at 100.

  • Under the agreement TCS and Canada Running Series (CRS) aim to modernize marathon running in Canada through a new official race app.
  • The app is equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) features and it will track the performance of both in-person and virtual runners on the same racecourse.

Former President of Mali Ibrahim Keïta passed away

  • Former President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta passed away recently at the age of 76.
  • IBK was in the office for 7 years from 2013-2020, until he was overthrown by Special forces Commander Assimi Goita. IBK had also served as Prime Minister of Mali from 1994 to 2000.
  • He had promised to restore Mali’s honour as a model for democracy in West Africa as he campaigned as a unifying figure in his fractured country, pledging “zero tolerance” for corruption.
