Rajasthan signed an MoU with Telangana to set up women’s bank

  • Rajasthan Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad (RGAV) has signed an MoU with the Telangana government’s Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation.
  • This MoU was signed to set up ‘Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi’, a financial institution for women, in Rajasthan.
  • Objective – To promote women’s empowerment by supporting their enterprises.
  • This institution will be operated entirely by women & will act as a complementary body to the formal banking system.
  • In the Budget for 2022-23, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced a bank run by women would be established in the state.
  • The state government will give a grant of Rs 50 crore in two years (Rs 25 crore in the first year) and a proposal for a grant of Rs 110 crore has been sent to the Central government.
  • Loans up to Rs 40,000 will be disbursed within 48 hours and an amount more than this within 15 days.

Singapore emerged as the top country with the highest FDI in India in FY22

  • Singapore, the USA, Mauritius, Netherlands and Switzerland have emerged as the top 5 countries for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into India in FY2021-22.
  • Singapore has emerged as the top sourcing nation with a contribution of 01 percent, followed by the USA at 17.94 percent.
  • Mauritius, The Netherlands and Switzerland follow the top two nations with contributions standing at 15.98 percent, 7.86 percent and 7.31 percent respectively.
  • While among the states, Karnataka led the pack in with a share of 37.55 percent of the total FDI inflow in FY22, followed by neighbouring state Maharashtra at 26.26 percent and national capital Delhi at 13.93 percent.
  • India has improved one position to 7th rank among the top 20 host economies for 2021, as per the UNCTAD World Investment Report 2022.
  • FDI equity inflow in manufacturing sectors has risen by 76% in FY 22 at USD 21.34 billion as compared with the previous fiscal at USD 12.09 billion.

Gujarat becomes the first state to launch semiconductor policy

  • The Gujarat government has announced a dedicated ‘Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27.
  • With this, Gujarat has become the first state in the country to have a dedicated semiconductor policy.
  • This new policy offers a slew of incentives and subsidies to manufacture semiconductors.
  • Under the policy, the state government will set up ‘Dholera Semicon City’ near Ahmedabad where eligible projects will be given subsidy for setting up manufacturing units.
  • At the facility, eligible projects will be given 75 percent subsidy on purchase of first 200 acres of land for setting up manufacturing units.
  • The eligible manufacturing units would also get power tariff subsidy of Rs 2 per unit for the first 10 years of going into production.
  • To encourage investors under the policy, the state government has also announced to reimburse 100 percent of stamp duty which investors would pay for the first time for taking land on lease or on land transfer.
  • The policy has been designed in line with the Centre’s India Semiconductor Mission. The policy would generate two lakh new jobs in the semiconductor sector during the next five years in the state.

PM Modi lays the foundation stone of IFSCA

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the Headquarters building of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • PM Modi also launched the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) and NSE IFSC-SGX Connect.
  • IFSCA was established by the Government of India to develop and regulate international financial services centres in the country.
  • The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), headquartered at GIFT City, Gandhinagar Gujarat, has been established under the International Financial Services Centres Authority Act, 2019. It works as a unified authority for the development and regulation of financial products, financial services and financial institutions in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in India. At present, the GIFT IFSC is the maiden international financial services centre in India
  • It was established in April 2020.

PM Modi launched Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Power Ministry’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
  • Modi unveiled the scheme during a program marking the culmination of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’.
  • The scheme aims at improving the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of the Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and power departments.
  • It has an outlay of over 3 lakh crore rupees over a period of five years from Financial Year 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • Modi also lay the foundation stone of various green energy projects of NTPC worth over Rs 5,200 crore.
  • He will also inaugurate the 100 MW Ramagundam floating solar project in Telangana and the 92 MW Kayamkulam floating solar project in Kerala.
  • He will also lay the foundation stone of the 735 MW Nokh solar project in Rajasthan, green hydrogen mobility project in Leh and Kawas green hydrogen blending with natural gas project in Gujarat.

ANC signed an MoU with AAI to boost inter-island connectivity

  • Andaman Nicobar Command signed an MoU with Airport Authority of India to boost inter-island connectivity under Udaan Scheme in Port Blair.
  • As per the MoU, naval airfields at Shibpur (in Diglipur) in North Andaman and in Campbell Bay will be utilized for civil operations.
  • Passenger flights will be connecting Port Blair directly to Diglipur and Campbell Bay, the two extreme corners of the archipelago.
  • A low-cost 20-passenger flight to be operated between these islands as per the vision of the Udaan Scheme.
  • Presently, Heli services are available to Diglipur and Campbell in a very limited capacity.
  • Diglipur is the third most populous town in Andaman while a major transshipment port is to come up in Campbell Bay.

  • The Indian Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association (IVPA) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) have signed an MoU to further cooperation between the two organizations to promote the use of palm oil.
  • The MoU also seeks to create greater awareness of Malaysian palm oil, benchmarked through the Malaysian Sustainability Palm Oil (MSPO) certification standards.
  • The MoU aims to help educate Indian consumers on the nutritional and health benefits of palm oil and improve overall understanding of palm oil and its applications while elucidating its strengths and benefits.

Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated conference on drug trafficking

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated a conference on drug trafficking and national security at Punjab Raj Bhavan.
  • Shah also inaugurated several developmental projects.
  • At the conference, over 30,000 kg of drugs will be burnt and disposed of by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) teams in Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati and Kolkata.
  • The NCB started the drug disposal campaign on June 1 and over 51,217 kg of narcotics have been disposed of by it in 11 states.
  • As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, the NCB took a pledge to destroy 75,000 kg of drugs on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence.
  • Shah also lays the foundation stone of the multi-level parking adjoining the District Courts Complex in Sector 43.

ReNew signed an MoU with Egypt government to set up green hydrogen plant in Egypt

  • ReNew Power has signed an MoU with Egypt government to set up a green hydrogen manufacturing facility at the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt. The facility will entail a total investment of up to USD 8 billion.
  • The Indian company will set up a plant to produce green hydrogen with a capacity of 20,000 tonnes annually, which can be raised to 220,000 tonnes annually, by using renewable energy sources at one location in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
  • The project will be implemented in phases. In the experimental phase, it will produce 20,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, through a 150-megawatt electrolysis device that provides 570 megawatts of renewable energy to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.
  • ReNew Power is a renewable energy company based in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Zimbabwe launched gold coins as legal tender to tackle inflation

  • Zimbabwe’s central bank has launched gold coins to tackle the soaring inflation in the country.
  • The coin is called ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ which refers to Victoria Falls in the local Tonga language.
  • The coins will have liquid asset status so that they could be easily converted to cash and locally and internationally tradable.
  • The cost of one coin was $1,824 at the time of launch.
  • Over the years, Zimbabwe has tried a variety of methods to get the situation under control as a result of the severe levels of inflation it has been experiencing for the previous ten years.
  • Trust in Zimbabwe’s currency is low after people saw their savings wiped out by hyperinflation in 2008 which reached 5 billion, according to the IMF.

Pranay Verma appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh 

  • Senior diplomat Pranay Verma has appointed India’s new high commissioner to Bangladesh. Verma is a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service officer.
  • He is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam.
  • He will succeed current High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami.
  • Doraiswami is set to assume charge as Indian High Commissioner to the UK.
  • Indian High Commissioner to the UK Gaitri Issar Kumar retired from service on June 30.

First indigenous aircraft carrier ‘Vikrant’ handed over to Indian Navy

  • The Cochin Shipyard Limited has handed over the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant to the Indian Navy.
  • The carrier is 262 meters long and has a full displacement of 45,000 tonnes. The aircraft carrier has a top speed of 28 knots and is powered by gas turbines with a total capacity of 88 Mega Watts.
  • The Vikrant has been built through three phases of cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the CSL. The first phase was completed by 2007, the second in December 2014, and the last in October 2019. It has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 20,000 crores.
  • According to the Navy, the 76 percent indigenization component is composed of equipment and machinery from major industrial houses like Bharat Electronics Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Keltron, Kirloskar, Larsen & Toubro, and Wartsila India, amongst others.
  • It is scheduled to be inducted into the services of the Indian Navy by August 2022.

Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi-role helicopters from the USA

  • The Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi-role helicopters from the US at the Cochin International Airport.

  • International Tiger Day is celebrated annually on 29 July.

  • In 1973, Project Tiger was launched in India with a unique plan to save tigers on the planet. Since its formative years, there were 9 tiger reserves but the Tiger Project coverage has increased significantly over time.
  • A conservation goal that was so ambitious was set up by the governments of the 13 range countries to double the number of wild tigers by this year.
  • As per the World Wildlife Fund, there are only 3900 wild tigers present around the globe.
