India’s retail inflation dropped to 4.25 percent in May from 4.7 percent in April, according to a data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The consumer price-based index (CPI) inflation in May is lowest in 25 months.
The food inflation also eased to 2.91 percent in April. It was 3.84 percent in the month of April.
The food basket accounts for nearly half of the CPI. While, inflation in fuel and light also eased to 4.64 percent, from 5.52 percent in April.
It was for the second month in a row that retail inflation remained within the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s comfort zone of below six percent.
Despite the huge 227-basis-point fall since January, CPI inflation remains above the central bank’s medium-term target of 4 percent for the 44th month in a row.
India’s CPI inflation in April fell sharply to 4.7 percent from 6.4 percent in February on the back of favourable base effects, with softening observed across all three major groups.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has become the first public sector bank to introduce an IVR-based UPI solution – UPI 123PAY.
What is UPI 123PAY
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a 24-hour payment channel enabling customers to perform fast, encrypted and real-time payments.
Till now, the solution was accessible only through smartphones or through Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) service and was dependent on good internet connectivity.
The UPI 123PAY solution would extend the functionality and facilitate the feature to any phone users and those in low internet connectivity zones to perform UPI transactions.
How to use UPI 123PAY
The UPI 123PAY functionality is simple and involves the following steps:
Step 1-Dial the bank’s easy-to-remember IVR number “9188-123-123″
Step 2-Choose the beneficiary
Step 3-Authenticate the transaction
UPI 123PAY will be multilingual and be available in the customer’s preferred language.
The solution is available in multiple languages and can be accessed by dialing 9188-123-123.
IDFC First Bank, City Union Bank, and NSDL Payments Bank have also gone live on IVR payments.

The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a loan agreement worth $130 million in order to increase agricultural productivity, improve access to irrigation and promote horticulture agribusinesses to raise farmers’ income in Himachal Pradesh.
The project interventions will help increase the income and resilience to the effects of climate change of at least 15,000 farm households across 7 districts of the state namely Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmour, Solan, and Una.
The project builds upon a pilot financed by ADB’s project readiness facility which demonstrated the subtropical horticulture production over 200 hectares and prepared the draft water user association (WUA) act and the draft state horticulture development strategy.

Exp. KVG Bank launches new deposit scheme
Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) has launched a new deposit scheme ‘Vikas Ashadeep 400 days’.
The scheme is of a tenor of 400 days with an interest rate of 7.50 percent for senior citizens and 7 percent for general public.
Under the scheme, a minimum of ₹10,000 and a maximum of ₹2 crore can be deposited.
The scheme is applicable to all segments of depositors, including senior citizens, and institutions. The scheme is open for a limited period.
The bank has a network of 639 branches with total business of ₹33350 crore. This included ₹18710 crore of deposits and ₹14640 crore of advances.

The Ministry of Steel has given three months extension to Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance) of the NMDC to hold the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) mining major and its disinvested company NMDC Steel Limited (NSL).
