Exp. Jammu & Kashmir to host G-20 meetings in 2023

Jammu and Kashmir will host the 2023 meetings of the G20, an influential group of the world’s major economies.

The J&K government has also setup a five member high-level committee for the coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the UT.

Commerce and industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021. India will take the G20 presidency from Dec 1, 2022.

About G20 Group

• The G20 or Group of Twenty is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. It works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development.
• G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, UK, USA, and the European Union.

Exp. Gujarat CM launched 17th ‘Shala Praveshotsav’

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel has launched the 17^th Shala Praveshotsav’.

Objective – To increase the enrollment of students in primary schools in the state of Gujarat.

The three-day enrollment drive begins from Memadpur primary school in Vadgam taluka of Banaskantha district.

This drive helps to reduce the dropout rate of students. The dropout rate has been reduced to just 3.07 percent from 37.22 percent in 2002.

Exp. Supreme Court-appointed CoA formed Advisory Panel; chaired by Ranjit Bajaj

Ranjit Bajaj has been named Chairman of an advisory committee to assist the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA).

CoA runs day to day affairs of All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The 12 member advisory committee was appointed by CoA to oversee the day to day matters of various departments of AIFF.

ICICI Bank launched a digital platform ‘Campus Power’, first-of-its-kind to address the needs of the students aspiring to pursue higher education in India and abroad. The platform caters to the varied needs of the entire student ecosystem comprising students, parents, and institutes.

The first branch has been set up at IIT Kanpur and seven more will be added to the campuses of top institutes across India.

Exp. World Bank approved Uttrakhand project to boost rain-fed agriculture

Rain-fed agriculture in the steep areas of Uttrakhand has been approved by the World Bank. The project will cost Rs 1000 crore.

Objective – Lower the greenhouse gas emissions.

The watershed department will carry out the Uttrakhand climate Responsive rain-fed Farming Project. It will also encourage environment friendly agricultural practices.

Former Drinking and water Sanitation Secretary Parameswaren Iyer has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog for 2 years.

Exp. P Udayakumar appointed as CMD of NSIC

P Udayakumar has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC).

NSIC is a government enterprise under the Ministry of MSME.

He will also be the chairman of NSIC Venture Capital Fund Limited.

Exp. Tapan Kumar Deka appointed as new Director of Intelligence Bureau

The Central Government appointed senior IPS officer Tapan Lumar Deka as Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB).

He will succeed incumbent Intelligence Buraeu Director Arvind Kumar.

Deka is currently head of the Operations Desk of the IB.

Exp. Dinkar Gupta appointed as new Director General of NIA

Dinkar Gupta, former chief of Punjab Police, has been appointed as Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Director General of CRPF Kuldiep Singh was given additional charge of the NIA in May last year after the retirement of Y C Modi.

The NIA is the primary counter-terrorist task force of India.

He is from Deputy MD of the State Bank of India (SBI).

Government extended the tenure of current Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Samant Kumar Goel for another one year, till June 2023. Goel is a 1984-batch IPS Officer of the Punjab Cadre.

The Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) is the foreign intelligence agency of India.

Exp. Scientists discovered world’s largest bacterium ‘Thiomargarita magnifica’

Scientists have discovered the world’s largest bacterium which can be seen with the nacked eye. It is approximately the size of a human eyelash.

The first example of this bacterium, named Thiomargarita magnifica, was found clinging to sunken mangrove leaves in the archipelago of Guadeloupe in 2009

Exp. C-DOT signed an agreement with Galore Network for 5G Radio Access network Products & Solutions

Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed an agreement with Galore Network for the collaborative development of end-to-end 5G Radio Access Network products & solutions. C-DOT is an Indian Government owned telecommunications technology development center.

This agreement will help in the manufacturing of the indigenous design, development and manufacturing of 5G products & solutions.
