Centre Cuts PM Ujjwala Subsidised LPG Quota to Four Cylinders Annually, Retains ₹300 Subsidy per Refill

  • The Central Government has reduced the annual subsidised LPG cylinder quota under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from 9 cylinders to 4 cylinders, while retaining the subsidy at ₹300 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
  • Under the revised scheme, PMUY beneficiaries will receive a maximum annual subsidy benefit of ₹1,200 per household (₹300 × 4 refills).

BRICS Agriculture Conference Begins in Indore

  • The BRICS Agriculture Conference 2026 began in Indore, with participation from 21 countries, focusing on global agricultural challenges such as food security, climate change, and innovation in farming. India, as the BRICS chair, is hosting the event.
  • The first day featured Agriculture Working Group meetings, where experts discussed the impact of climate change on agriculture and explored strategies to build climate-resilient and sustainable farming systems.
  • The conference will continue till June 13, culminating in ministerial-level discussions on digital agriculture, smart farming, and climate adaptation, along with a joint declaration and a symbolic tree plantation drive at BRICS Vatika.

Government Allocates 95,692 Crore for Transition from MNREGA to VB-G RAM G Rural Employment Scheme

  • The Government has proposed an interim allocation of ₹95,692 crore to states and UTs to ensure a smooth transition from MNREGA to the new scheme Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin (VB-G RAM G), which will come into effect from 1 July.
  • Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that 26 states have already made budgetary provisions, while states like Jharkhand, Karnataka, Telangana and Mizoram have assured early implementation preparations.
  • The government clarified that no state’s allocation has been reduced, with the overall budget increased by 40% compared to last year, aiming to strengthen rural employment and uninterrupted livelihood generation under the new mission.

PM Modi to Launch Modified UDAN Scheme in Kolkata on June 20

  • The Centre is set to launch the next phase of the modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, which will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kolkata on June 20.
  • The Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN will be implemented for a 10-year period from FY27 to FY36 to strengthen regional air connectivity.
  • The scheme is backed by a total budgetary allocation of ₹28,840 crore, aimed at improving air access in underserved and unserved regions across India.
  • The Union Cabinet approved the modified UDAN framework in March 2026, focusing on enhancing efficiency and addressing operational challenges from earlier phases.

Amit Shah Launches LPMS–Vinimay: Digital System to Transform India’s Land Border Management and Trade Efficiency

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System (LPMS) – Vinimay in New Delhi to digitise and streamline cargo and passenger movement at India’s land borders.
  • The platform aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and aims to strengthen trade facilitation, national security, and modern border management through technology.
  • It is a real-time integrated digital system that brings all stakeholders onto a single platform, reducing nearly 90% of paperwork and improving efficiency.
  • Key features like the Single Electronic Window and ANPR-based gate operations will speed up processing, while land port trade has grown from ₹5,000 crore (2014) to ₹83,000 crore, reflecting major expansion.

Assam’s GI-Tagged Tezpur Litchi Exported to Dubai, Boosting India’s North-East Agri Export Push

  • India has exported 1 tonne of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai, marking a boost in the global presence of this premium fruit.
  • The Tezpur Litchi, known for its sweet taste, bright-red colour and unique aroma, is now being promoted in overseas markets under India’s agri-export initiatives for the North Eastern Region.
  • The Geographical Indication (GI) tag has strengthened its identity and market recognition, helping varieties like Bombaya, Bilati, Elaichi, Piyaji and Sahi gain international attention and export opportunities.

Defence Ministry Approves 250 MW Solar + BESS Project at Sitapur on Defence Land

  • The Defence Ministry has approved the establishment of a 250 MW Solar Power Project with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur (Ex-Cantonment), Uttar Pradesh, on around 850 acres of defence land.
  • It is a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), developed on vacant defence land, aiming to integrate large-scale solar power generation with energy storage.
  • The project will enhance long-term energy security for defence forces, reduce dependence on conventional grid power, and generate significant cost savings for the government over its lifecycle.

Fitch Lowers India’s FY27 GDP Growth Forecast to 6.4%

  • Fitch Ratings has reduced India’s FY27 GDP growth forecast to 6.4% from 6.7%, citing the economic impact of the US-Iran war and higher oil prices.
  • The agency expects India’s growth to slow from 7.4% in FY26 as rising inflation weakens consumer spending, although capital expenditure is expected to remain resilient.
  • Fitch also cut its global growth forecast for 2026 to 2.4% and raised its Brent crude oil price estimate to $87 per barrel, reflecting the effects of the ongoing oil market disruption caused by the US-Iran conflict.

  • India dominated the inaugural World Yogasana Championship 2026, finishing at the top of the medal table with 114 medals, including an impressive 102 gold medals, at the EKA Arena.
  • The five-day championship featured 522 athletes from 79 countries, with 31 nations winning at least one medal and 10 countries securing at least one gold medal.
  • Organized by Yogasana Bharat in association with World Yogasana and the Indian Olympic Association, the event marked a major milestone for competitive Yogasana, which is now featured in the Khelo India Youth Games and the National Games 2025.

Savitha Shri Baskar Clinches 2026 Women’s Asian Individual Chess Championship Title
