India to Host 4th India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi After 10-Year Gap

  • India will host the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) in New Delhi, marking its return after a 10-year gap, highlighting renewed engagement with Africa.
  • The summit will be organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with the African Union.
  • The event aims to strengthen India–Africa relations, focusing on cooperation in areas like trade, investment, development, and strategic partnerships.

IITM Pune Installs X-Band Doppler Weather Radar at Mahabaleshwar to Boost Forecasting Under Mission Mausam

  • The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, inaugurated an X-band Doppler Weather Radar at Mahabaleshwar under Mission Mausam to enhance weather monitoring.
  • Installed at about 1,400 metres in the Western Ghats, the radar can track rainfall, storms, fog, and winds in real time, improving short-term weather forecasts (up to 3 hours) for regions like Pune, Mumbai, Konkan, and Satara.
  • IITM also signed an MoU with ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC) to develop advanced satellite-based weather products, aiding disaster management, agriculture, aviation safety, and climate studies.

India’s Industrial Growth Slows to 4.1% in March 2026

  • India’s industrial output growth slowed to a 5-month low of 1% in March 2026, indicating moderation in economic activity.
  • Industrial growth is measured by the Index of Industrial Production, which tracks factory output across sectors.
  • As per National Statistics Office (NSO), February 2026 growth was revised to 5.1% from the earlier estimate of 5.2%.

UNESCO Expands Global Geoparks Network with 12 New Sites, Total Reaches 241 Worldwide

  • UNESCO has added 12 new sites to its Global Geoparks Network, strengthening efforts to protect geological heritage and promote sustainable development.
  • The newly designated geoparks are spread across countries like China, France, Greece, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia, Tunisia, and Uruguay, highlighting global participation.
  • With this expansion, the total number of UNESCO Global Geoparks has reached 241 sites in 51 countries, covering over 882,000 sq km worldwide.

Spiritual Leader Muni Narayana Prasad Passes Away at 87 in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Renowned spiritual leader Muni Narayana Prasad, head of Narayana Gurukulam, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 87.
  • Originally a civil engineer, he joined the Gurukulam in 1968 and became its head in 1999, carrying forward the vision of Sree Narayana Guru.
