Dharmendra Pradhan launches 3-year partnership with Meta

  • Dharmendra Pradhan has launched a 3-year partnership “Education to Entrepreneurship: Empowering a generation of students, educators and entrepreneurs” between the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Meta in New Delhi.
  • Three Letters of Intent (LoI) were exchanged between Meta and NIESBUD, AICTE and CBSE.
  • The initiative launched is in furtherance to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a skilled capital of the world and empowering our Amrit Peedhi.
  • Under the partnership with NIESBUD, five lakh entrepreneurs will get access to digital marketing skills by Meta over the next three years.

IREDA signs MoU with IIFCL to finance renewable energy projects

  • Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) has signed a MoU with India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL), to finance renewable energy projects.
  • The MoU will empower IREDA and IIFCL to engage in Co-Lending / Co-Origination and Loan Syndication for all categories of Renewable Energy projects, including Small Hydro projects.
  • Both organizations will strive to also fix interest rates for IREDA borrowings for a period of three to four years. Further, IIFCL may invest in the bonds issued by IREDA, as per the terms and conditions of the issue.
  • Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) is a PSU under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL) is a wholly-owned Government of India company set up in 2006 to provide long-term financial assistance to viable infrastructure projects.

IIT Jodhpur scientists develop ‘CODE’ device for good air quality

  • Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur researchers have developed a novel Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment (CODE) device for good indoor air quality.
  • The CODE device consumes less power, deactivates bacteria, moulds and viruses, captures dust and pollen, and also removes odours.
  • The device has been tested extensively which deactivates more than 99.99 percent of harmful pathogens and provides quality indoor air.
  • Air pollution is basically one of the top 5 risks causing chronic diseases, according to the World Health Organization.
  • We consume nearly 8 times as much air by volume as food and 4 times as much air as water. Indoor air often contains around 2-5 times more pollution as compared to outdoor air.
  • The concept is based on non-equilibrium cold plasma in combination with nano-technology. This Novel CODE device produces optimum concentrations of negative ions having cold-plasma detergent ions as well as positive ions in an environment similar to mother nature.

MoS Jitendra Singh inaugurates S20 Conference in Uttar Pradesh

  • Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh has inaugurated the S20 Conference under the aegis of G20 at Amity University’s Noida campus in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Amity has created a benchmark in education across the globe. India’s Presidency of G20 is a matter of immense pride for the whole country.
  • It covers the topics – Clean Energy for Greener Future, Universal Holistic Health, Science for Society & Culture, and Role of Media in Science and Culture.

Himachal CM launches SABAL Yojna to empower divyang children

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched the Mukhya Mantri Sporting Abilities, Rebuilding Aspirations and Livelihood Scheme (SABAL) from his Nadaun assembly constituency in Hamirpur district.
  • Aimed for the bright future of specially-abled children, this scheme intends to take special care of such children in around 400 schools across Hamirpur, Solan, and Shimla districts, said officials.
  • Simultaneously, the Chief Minister also launched ‘Abhyas Himachal’ and ‘Shikshak Sahayata’ chatbots, accessible via the Swift Chat app, offering ease similar to WhatsApp and powered by conversational Artificial Intelligence.
  • These chatbots will enable students to revise lessons at their convenience, from any location from their mobile phones. This facility features a quiz-based format and provides educational videos that can be utilized by both students and teachers to enhance the learning and teaching experience in the classroom.
  • The Chief Minister also launched “Sampark Science TV Program,” designed to transform ordinary TVs into Smart TVs. This innovation aims to enhance children’s learning experiences, especially in subjects like Mathematics and English.

Delhi Metro starts selling ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ at selected Metro station

  • Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started selling ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ from its selected Metro stations through dedicated counters.
  • These Smart Cards which will be sold till 13th of this month, have been launched to facilitate the G20 delegates and international visitors who might be interested in exploring the prominent tourist places of the capital city as they arrive in Delhi.
  • The 36 stations where these cards will be sold through dedicated counters include Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, ITO and Supreme Court metro stations.
  • The ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ will be available in two categories of One-Day Validity and Three-Day Validity cards, offering unlimited rides in the Metro network.
  • The One-day validity Tourist Smart Card will be available for 200 rupees. The three-day validity card will be available for 500 rupees. This amount also includes a refundable security deposit of 50 rupees.
  • Besides unlimited rides, these Tourist Smart Cards are of great benefit to tourists as they can seamlessly travel in the entire network from the first train to the last train service available for the day.
  • Delhi Metro, which is ranked among one of the largest Metro systems in the world is well connected to almost all the prominent tourist destinations in the city like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Akshardham Temple, and Kalkaji Temple, to name a few.

Assam Govt to introduce Bill in state assembly to ban polygamy

  • The Assam government is likely to introduce a Bill in the state assembly in December to ban polygamy.
  • Polygamy is the practice of marrying more than one person (multiple spouses).
  • A legal committee was formed to analyze whether the state government can ban polygamy or not and we have received positive thoughts.
  • Government also sought public opinions and suggestions on the proposed Bill for banning polygamy. We have received a total of 149 suggestions in response to our public notice. Out of these, 146 suggestions are in favour of the Bill and they support to ban on polygamy.
  • However, three suggestions have expressed their opposition to banning polygamy.

Haryana CM announces every Tuesday will be car-free day in Karnal

  • In a significant move to raise awareness about drug-free living and promote environmental sustainability, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal announced that every Tuesday will be a car-free day in Karnal.
  • As part of this initiative, all government officials will be required to travel by bicycle on Tuesdays.
  • The Chief Minister also pledged that if he visits Karnal on Tuesdays, he will also personally lead by example and travel by bicycle.

Paytm launches new ‘Soundbox’ that enables card payments

  • Paytm has launched its latest innovation – Card Soundbox, which is intended to empower merchants to accept both mobile and card payments across all Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and RuPay networks.
  • UPI payment system has become hugely popular for retail digital payments in India, and its adoption is increasing at a rapid pace.
  • These card-based payments on ‘tap and pay’ basis will help merchants scale their business. With Paytm Card Soundbox, the company solves two problems for merchants – accepting card payments along with instant audio alerts for all payments.
  • Paytm was the first company to launch audio-based confirmations with Paytm Soundbox in 2019.
  • Paytm Card Soundbox has a built-in ‘tap and pay’ functionality through which merchants can accept card payments up to Rs 5,000.

SBI introduces UPI interoperability in Digital Rupee

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced interoperability of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Digital Rupee, also known as Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
  • The new ‘eRupee by SBI’ application will allow SBI CBDC users to easily scan any merchant UPI QR code for quick and secure transactions.
  • The seamless integration of CBDC with UPI marks a significant leap for the bank, enhancing the acceptance and utilization of digital currencies in everyday transactions.
  • State Bank of India (SBI), Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Canara Bank, among others, are live with the inclusion of UPI interoperability.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched the first pilot of Digital Rupee in Dec 2022.

Lokesh Suji elected to IESF Membership Committee for 3-year term

  • The General Body of the International Esports Federation (IESF) has elected Lokesh Suji, director of the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) and vice-president of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), to its membership committee for a three-year term.
  • The election marks the first time that an Indian has become a part of the membership committee of the International Esports Federation.
  • The elections for Suji’s appointment were conducted during the recent Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the IESF on August 28 in Iasi, Romania, where out of the 70 voting and present members, a majority of 42 member countries voted in favour of his selection.
  • As part of the membership committee, he will now leverage his experience and expertise to ensure the execution of the process, contributing to a future for esports within the IESF.

Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora takes charge as Additional DG of MNS

  • Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora has taken charge as the Additional Director General of the Military Nursing Service (MNS).
  • The General Officer is an alumnus of the School of Nursing, Army Hospital Delhi Cantt, now College of Nursing, Army Hospital (R&R)
  • She was commissioned into the MNS in the year 1985 and completed her Midwifery training at Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore in 1986. Continuing the higher study, she completed her PCBSc Nursing from College of Nursing AFMC Pune in 1995.
  • During her illustrious career of 38 years, the General Officer has held various key appointments in the Armed Forces Medical Services hospitals including JDMNS (Trg & HS) Eastern Command, DPM INHS Asvini, Principal Matron AICTS Pune, Brig MNS at HQ Northern Command.

N Valarmathi, the voice behind ISRO mission launches, passes away

  • Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) scientist N Valarmathi, the voice behind the national space agency’s rocket launch countdowns, has passed away.
  • She was a part of the Range Operations Programme Office at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre where she used to announce the countdown on all launches.
  • The mission was launched on July 14 with the aim of achieving a soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole, a feat that was achieved shortly after 6pm on August 23, as scheduled.
  • With this, India became only the fourth country to achieve a lunar soft-landing, the others being the United States, Russia, and China. Also, India is the first nation to reach the Moon’s South Pole.
