Exp. Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated “Sujal”, ‘Drink from Tap Mission’ scheme, to provide round the clock supply of quality tap drinking water in all urban areas of the state.

The state has set the target to provide piped water connections to all urban areas in the state by March 2022. Odisha government has set Rs 1300 crore for this scheme which will benefit over 15 lakh people in 15 towns in a phased manner.

Exp. Army chief General M.M. Naravane will be visiting Nepal next month where he will be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army in an investiture ceremony, the Nepal Army said on 14th October.

Defence sources told ThePrint the visit is likely to take place in the first week of November. Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari will confer the honorary rank upon Gen. Naravane in the ceremony.

Exp. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has informed K. Somaprasad, MP, that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has constituted a committee for preparing the Professional Engineers Bill.

The committee will function under the chairmanship of M.S. Ananth, former director, IIT Mardas. Mr. Somaprasad had pointed out that though there were 10,396 engineering institutes in India approved by the AICTE at present, only few were imparting quality education.

The index, which compares the access granted by the passports of 193 United Nations member countries.

Exp. India and France were re-elected as the president and co-president of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for a term of two years on 14th October at the virtual meeting of the third assembly. The event was attended by 34 ISA Members ministers. A total of 53 member countries and 5 signatory and prospective member countries participated in the assembly.

Four new Vice-Presidents were also chosen to represent the four regions of ISA. The representatives of Fiji & Nauru for Asia Pacific Region; Mauritius & Niger for Africa Region; UK & Netherlands for Europe and others Region, and Cuba and Guyana for Latin America and Caribbean Region assumed the vice presidency.

Exp.  Renowned Malayalam poet and Jnanpith laureate Mahakavi Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri died at a private hospital on 15th October. He was conferred with the Jnanpith award, the highest literary award in the country. The poet, who was instrumental in heralding modernism in Malayalam poetry, was also a true Gandhian, social reformer, journalist and an example of simplicity.
