♦“Varasat” campaign launched in Uttar Pradesh

“Varasat” campaign launched in Uttar Pradesh

  • In first of its kind campaign to end the nagging land related issues in the rural areas, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched the special ‘varasat’ (natural succession) drive. It is aimed at eradicating the exploitation of the villagers in the name of Varasat of land and property.
  • This will not only end the long pending land disputes, but will also put a check on the land mafia who generally target disputed lands especially in the rural areas.

♦India’s 1st CoE for Skill Development in Power Sector inaugurated in Gurugram

  • The Minister of State for Skill Development, Raj Kumar Singh has inaugurated the first Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘skill development in the power sector’ in Gurugram. The CoE has been established in the campus of National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram, Haryana.
  • This new centre has been set up by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and Youth, Government of France and Schneider Electric.

India celebrate 400th prakash parv of Guru Tegh Bahadur

  • Guru Tegh Bahadur (1 April 1621 – 19 December 1675) was the ninth of ten Gurus who founded the Sikh religion and he was head of the followers of Sikhism from 1965 until his beheading in 1675.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur was assassinated at the orders of Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, in Delhi, India. Aurangzeb had launched forced conversions of all his subjects to Islam. Guru Tegh Bahadur defied Aurangzeb and refused to convert to Islam.

♦20th IORA Council of Ministers Meeting Held in UAE

  • The 20th edition of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers (COM) Meeting via video conferencing under the Chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Indian delegation was led by V. Muraleedharan, MoS, Ministry of External Affairs. Sri Lanka has assumed the charge of Vice-Chair of IORA for the period 2021-23.
  • Theme- “Promoting a Shared Destiny and Path to Prosperity in the Indian Ocean”.

7-time F1 champion Hamilton wins BBC''s top sports prize

  • Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton capped another successful year by claiming the BBC”s Sports Personality of the Year prize.
  • The 35-year-old driver, who last month equaled Michael Schumacher”s record of seven F1 titles, overcame Jordan Henderson and Hollie Doyle to win the British broadcaster”s prestigious prize in a public vote on 20th Dec. Hamilton also won the BBC prize in 2014.

♦Anshu Malik grabs silver in Wrestling, India’s first medal at Individual World Cup

  • Indian wrestling star Anshu Malik clinched the country’s first medal at the Individual World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia, grabbing a silver in the 57kg category.
  • Anshu comes from a family of wrestlers who had made their mark. Her father, Dharamveer Malik, a wrestler himself, could not hold back his tears as he witnessed his daughter making the country proud.

  • India finished the competition at the second spot overall after claiming three gold, two silver and four bronze medals Cologne World Cup in Germany.

Rajnath Singh inaugurates India's first hypersonic wind tunnel test facility

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 20th Dec inaugurated the advanced Hypersonic Wind Tunnel (HWT) test facility here, making India the third country after the US and Russia to have such a facility.
  • The state-of-the-art HWT Test facility is “pressure vacuum driven enclosed free jet facility having nozzle exit diameter of 1 metre and will simulate Mach No 5 to 12 (Mach represents the multiplication factor to the speed of sound)”.
  • The facility has the capability to “simulate hypersonic flow over a wide spectrum and will play a major role in the realization of highly complex futuristic aerospace and defence systems
