PM Modi to launch ‘SEHAT’, Health Insurance Scheme for J&k

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch ‘SEHAT’ – Health Insurance Scheme for the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on 26th December. This scheme will cover the remaining One crore population which was not covered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Under Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), eligible beneficiaries were covered under Health Cover of Rs 5 Lakh.
  • Under PMJAY scheme: 30 lakh people are being covered in J&K. With the launch of ‘SEHAT’ Scheme by the Prime Minister on December 26, J&K will be among the first in the country to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

Note: About Ayushman Bharat

  • Launched: 23 September 2018
  • Covered: Those living in scheduled caste and scheduled tribe households, Families with no male member aged 16 to 59 years, Beggars and those surviving on alms, Families with no individuals aged between 16 and 59 years
  • Coverage of Rs.5 lakh per family per annum for secondary and tertiary care across public and private hospitals.

♦World Bank’s updated Doing Business rankings

World Bank’s updated Doing Business rankings

  • In August 2020, the World Bank decided to pause the publication of its Doing Business Report after number of irregularities regarding changes to data in previous reports. Changes are being made and these changes are to be reflected in the next report that is due in March 2021.
  • India had jumped 14 positions to be ranked 63rd among 190 countries in the World Bank’s ease of doing business 2020 survey.
  • The World Bank says that China should have been dropped by seven places, that is to 85th rank rather than remaining in 78th. This is in accordance to the Doing Business report, 2018.
  • Saudi Arabia ranked at 62nd earlier should have been placed at 63rd. The rank of Azerbaijan was updated to 28. Earlier, it was ranked at 28th.

Sixth India-Japan Samwad Conference

  • The Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed the sixth India-Japan Sanwad Conference through video conferencing.
  • The purpose of This Samvad Conference is to discuss the need to build the future of Asia on the positive influence of traditions of non-violence and democracy in Asia.
  • The first conference, Samvad-I, was held in New Delhi in 2015, at Bodh Gaya. During Samvad I, leading scholars, religious leaders, academics, and political personalities had exchanged views on conflict avoidance and environmental consciousness.

♦ADB Approves $231 Million Loan for a Hydropower Project in Assam

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $231 million loan to develop the Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Power (LKHEP) facility in Assam.
  • The Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Power facility will utilize water from the Kopili river to produce around 120 MW of electricity, specifically during peak demand periods. The project will double the hydropower generation capacity of Assam Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGCL).

♦Indian Army signs MoU with Bank of Baroda for new ‘Baroda Military Salary Package’

Indian Army signs MoU with Bank of Baroda for new 'Baroda Military Salary Package'

  • Indian Army and Bank of Baroda have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ‘Baroda Military Salary Package’
  • Services under ‘Baroda Military Salary Package’ will be offered to serving and retired personnel of Indian Army through the Bank’s network of over 8,200 domestic branches and around 20,000 business correspondent touchpoints.
  • The package offers very attractive benefits including free Personal Accidental Insurance cover, Permanent Total Disability cover, Partial disability Cover and Air Accident Insurance Cover of sizeable amounts, as well as Higher Education Cover and Girl Child Marriage Cover on death in case of serving personnel.

♦Central Bank of India ties up with NPCI to launche ‘RuPay Select’ Contactless Debit Card

  • The Central Bank of India has launched a unique variant of a contactless debit card under the name ‘RuPay Select’, in association with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
  • This RuPay Debit Select Card will focus on customers’ lifestyle, fitness, rejuvenation, nutrition and personal care.
  • Additionally, it comes up with an accidental and permanent disability insurance cover up to 10 lakh at no extra cost to customers.

PM Modi awarded ‘Legion of Merit’ by Donald Trump

  • US President Donald Trump presented the prestigious Legion of Merit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in elevating strategic partnership of the two countries and emergence of India as a global power.
  • India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, accepted the award on behalf of the prime minister from the US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien at the White House.

  • National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on December 22 across the nation to recognise and celebrate the works of Srinivasa Ramanujan. It was on this day in 1887, the Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan was born.
  • The mathematical genius Ramanujan was born to a Tamil Brahmin Iyengar family at Erode, Tamil Nadu. The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on February 26, 2012, declared December 22 as the National Mathematics Day to mark the mathematician’s birth anniversary.


♦MP’s Former CM Motilal Vora passes away

  • Veteran Congress leader, Motilal Vora has passed away following post-COVID-19 complications.
  • He was born at Jodhpur in Rajasthan and began his career as a journalist. The late Congress leader served as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh twice, once from 1985 to 1988 and then again in 1989 for 11 months.
