Goa: First State to cover 100% tap water connection
Recently, good news for the Jal Shakti Ministry came from Goa state. It became the first state in the country to provide tap water connections to 100 percent of rural areas of Goa. The chief minister of the state ,Pramod Sawant, has confirmed this news and praised the support of Gajendra Singh Shekhawat ,the minister of Jal Shakti Ministry. He further said that without the support of the Jal Shakti Ministry we couldn’t achieve this target.
Now Goa has achieved 100% cover of Har Ghar Jal certification under the Jal Jeevan Mission from The Jal Shakti Ministry of government of India. It has provided tap water connection to all rural areas covering 2,63,013 households.
The chief minister of Goa also appreciated the support of honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to bring such an initiative. He said with the support and guidance of The Jal Shakti Ministry the state could achieve the 100 percent tap water connection to every household in Goa.
Jal Jeevan Mission:
It is a very inspiring mission of the government of India. Under this mission it is decided to provide safe and adequate water for drinking through the tap water connections in every household in rural areas of India by 2024. This mission also includes grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting and provides methods to recharge and reuse the water. The key components of this mission include knowledge, education , information and effective communication. Jal Jeevan Mission’s target is to educate people about water and provide knowledge to make water conservation a priority of the citizens.
In the union budget 2022-23 the amount allotted for Jal Jeevan Mission is 60,000 cr by the Central Government. It allocation makes it clear that the importance of Har Ghar Jal mission is high and government makes sure that by 2024 every household in rural areas of India will get tap water connection for safe drinking water and to fulfill this target now Goa becomes the first state in the country to provide 100 percent tap water connection to every household in rural areas of the state.
According to the official website of the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission, India currently has 52.41 percent coverage of tap water connection in the rural areas. The number of total rural households is 19,14,45,289 and the tap water connections in these households are 10,03,34,920 around 52.41 percent according to the official data.
We can hope to achieve the target of 100 percent coverage of tap water connection in the rural areas of India.
