India’s first Regional Rapid Transit system inaugurated

India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station.

PM Narendra Modi has also flagged off the RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot. Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday announced that RRTS trains will be known as ‘Namo Bharat’.

Requirement of RRTS:

Through the inauguration of first RRTS, the priority corridor of RRTS project will benefit to the aspirations of crores of people.

The Indian Railways is already running semi-high-speed trains — ‘Vande Bharat’ — in different parts of the country.

German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, has also been presented at the launching event. He felt honored and privileged for presenting at the venue of launching a fabulous project.

It is considered to be the fastest train in India so far. It’s a shuttle train that comes under NCRTC from Meerut to Delhi.

It has the capacity to run at a speed of 160 km/hr and it will be operated by a German rail company Deutsche Bahn.

Upcoming plan under RRTS:

There are total eight RRTS corridors have been planned for development in the National Capital Region (NCR). Three corridors have been prioritized for implementation in Phase I.

The featured Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS which has a total project cost exceeding ₹30,000 crore will fill the gap between Delhi and Meerut in less than an hour.

The Regional Rapid Transit System will provide high-speed intercity commuting trains with designing of 180 kilometers per hour. RRTS is also has the flexibility feature to increase the frequency to as little as every 5 minutes as needed.

Note:

Here it is important to note that the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor were laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019.
