The Finance Ministry released the data which shows that the total number of Jan Dhan accounts in the country has crossed 50 crore-mark in which 56 per cent of the accounts are owned by women.

Out of the total number of Jan Dhan accounts opened, 67% have been from rural and semi-urban areas in the country.

Amount deposits in Jan Dhan accounts:

There is more than Rs. 2.03 lakh crore as the total deposits in these accounts and around 34 crore RuPay cards have been issued with these accounts free of cost.

With the information received from the Finance Ministry the average balance in Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts is registered at ₹ 4,076 and more than 5.5 crore of these are receiving Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

About the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana:

Launched on: 28 August 2014

The National Mission on Financial Inclusion popularly known as PMJDY was launched with an aim of changing the financial landscape of the country.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced during his first independence speech on 15 August 2014 and after some day he launched the scheme.

Slogan of the scheme: Mera Khata Bhagya Vidhata

World Record: The scheme has also registered with the Guinness book of world records for its achievement of the most bank accounts opened in one week.

Advantages to PMJD bank account holders:

PMJDY offers multiple advantages to account holders which are as follows:

A bank account holder under PMJDY scheme is not required to hold minimum balance.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana offers free of cost RuPay debit cards with in-built accident insurance of ₹ 2 lakh, and an overdraft facility of up to ₹ 10,000.
