 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Filibuster (verb)

Meaning: a tactic for delaying or obstructing legislation by making long speeches (बाधा)

Synonyms: stonewall, blocking, hindrance

Sentence: Opponents of the bill threatened to filibuster its final stages.

  1. Jejune (adj.)

Meaning: very simple (बहुत सीधा)

Synonyms: naïve, simple, innocent

Antonyms: interesting, intriguing, exciting

Sentence: She made jejune remarks about life and art.

  1. Facetious (adj.)

Meaning: as in witty (हासकर)

Synonyms: joyous, funny, Genial

Antonyms: stupid, witless, lame

Sentence: He was so facetious that he turned everything into a joke.

  1. Deleterious (adj.)

Meaning: as in harmful (हानिकारक)

Synonyms: dangerous, harmful, infectious

Antonyms: beneficial, advantageous, harmless

Sentence: These drugs have a proven deleterious effect on the nervous system.

  1. Circumspect (adj.)

Meaning: as in cautious (चौकन्ना)

Synonyms: cautious, careful, alert

Antonyms: careless, reckless, regardless

Sentence: She is very circumspect when dealing with strangers.

  1. Aversion (noun)

Meaning: as in disgust (घृणा)

Synonyms: disgust, hatred, horror

Antonyms: like, relish, appetite

Sentence: He has a strong aversion to dogs.

  1. Enervate (verb)

Meaning: as in to undermine (कमज़ोर)

Synonyms: undermine, weaken, exhaust

Antonyms: stimulate, energize, invigorate

Sentence: The hot sun enervated her to the point of collapse.

  1. Gist (noun)

Meaning: as in conclusion (निष्कर्ष)

Synonyms: conclusion, main point, inference

Sentence: The gist of his argument is that full employment is impossible.

  1. Objurgate (verb)

Meaning: as into censure (निंदा करना)

Synonyms: reprimand, punish, criticize

Antonyms: applaud, honor, endorse

Sentence: the old man objurgated his son

  1. Incipient (adj.)

Meaning: as in nascent (पैदा होनेवाला)

Synonyms: nascent, first, preliminary

Antonyms: mature, adult, developed

Sentence: John’s incipient school problems were nipped in the bud.
