Narges Mohammadi won Nobel Peace Prize 2023
Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 for her fight against the oppression of women. She still remains in jail when the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to her. Narges Mohammadi is the 19th woman to win the Nobel peace Prize.
The prize worth 11 million Swedish crowns (around $ 1 million) will awarded to Narges Mohammadi in Oslo on December 10.
Narges Mohammadi belongs to one of the worst countries for women rights Iran.
About Narges Mohammadi:
Born: 21 April 1972 in Iran
A professional engineer, a journalist and social reforms activist Narges Mohammadi has been arrested 13 times, convicted five times and sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes.
She is the vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre. Her brave struggle has come with tremendous personal costs.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded Nobel Peace Prize with wishes to honour her courageous fight for human rights, freedom, and democracy in Iran.
She is currently, at the time of announcement of peace prize, serving multiple sentences at a prison in Tehran for charges that include spreading propaganda against the state.
