 On June 26, 2024, the Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra launched an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) system for early detection of forest fires.

Technology Implementation

A state-of-the-art PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera is installed on a tower atop one of the reserve’s highest hills, near the village of Kirringisarra, approximately 540 meters above sea level. This camera, with a field of view of 15 kilometers, can effectively monitor over 350 square kilometers of forest. The system includes a control room located in the West Pench range office in Kolitmara and utilizes data from fifteen commercial satellite services.
