National Startup Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that January 16 every year will be celebrated as ‘National Start-up Day’. This announcement has done while he was interacting with over 150 startups on Saturday as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
PM Modi said, “Start-ups are going to be the backbone of new India. At the time of completing 100 years of independence, Indian start-ups will have a key role. Indian innovators are earning the country proud globally.”
This event is the celebration of 6th year of the launch of the Startup India initiative. The event was organized from January 10 to 16 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The intention to accelerate the startup is to understand how startups can fulfill the requirements of the country by driving innovation in the country.
Narendra Modi made the announcement at the time of interaction with various startups as part of the Startup India Innovation Week.
Startups in small cities:
In the pre-2014 era, only big businesses in the metros were flourishing, today there is at least one start-up in 625 districts of the country which taking advantage of the growth.
50% of startup of them are in tier 2 and tier 3 cities (i.e. small cities and rural-urban areas where youth from poor and ordinary families are engaged in developing start-ups. It gives an advance level of lifestyle and knowledge to them.
Government desires to give innovation opportunities to startups.
The PM called innovators and entrepreneurs to bring their dreams out of the level from local as government is organizing hundreds of hackathons to provide many solutions for the country.
Different government departments and ministries are in consultation with the youth and start-ups, encouraging their new ideas such as new drone rules or the new space policy.
Data about new start ups:
PM Modi highlighted the data about patents that 4,000 registered in 2013-14 which increased last year (2020-21) at 28,000.
The registration of trademarks was 70,000 in 2013-14, while over 2.5 lakh were registered in the year of 2020-21.
Global Innovation Ranking:
Great efforts of Government of India resulted in improvement to innovation, which can be showed by India’s ranking on the Global Innovation Index which comes from 81 to 46.
Role of government:
To help young innovators, the government of India has already launched various schemes and programmes named ‘Start-Up India, Stand-India’ type of programmes and ‘Make in India’.
