- India created cricket history by winning the ICC T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, gave a strong and inspiring performance in the final match against New Zealand.
- The final match was mostly one-sided. India played very well in batting, and the bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah was too strong for the Black Caps (New Zealand team) to handle.
- India had already won the T20 World Cup in 2024, and now the Men in Blue successfully defended their title. They played very well throughout the tournament, and their only loss came against South Africa in the Super Eight stage.

Iran selects new Supreme Leader while U.S. and Israeli attacks set Tehran fuel depots on fire
- Iran was preparing to announce its new Supreme Leader on Sunday while Israeli air strikes supported by the United States attacked fuel depots in Tehran. These attacks caused large fires and thick smoke across the city.
- The attack on fuel depots was important because it was the first time Iran’s oil infrastructure was targeted during this ongoing conflict.
- On Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran would not attack its West Asian neighbours, unless attacks on Iran were launched from their territories.
- Even after this warning, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain reported new attacks on Sunday.
- In Saudi Arabia, two people were killed when a military projectile hit a residential area in Al Kharj Governorate. The civil defence authorities confirmed the deaths, but they did not reveal the identities. It was reported that one of the victims was an Indian national.
- Iran’s clerical body called the Assembly of Experts, which is responsible for choosing the successor to Ali Khamenei, had already selected the new Supreme Leader, but the name had not yet been announced.
- Ali Khamenei, Iran’s long-time leader, was reportedly killed a little more than a week earlier during the strikes that started this war.
- Ahmad Alamolhoda, speaking through Iran’s Mehr News Agency, said that the vote to select the new leader had already been completed and a leader had been chosen.
- He also said that the secretariat of the Assembly of Experts would officially announce the name later.
- Another member of the Assembly, Hosseinali Eshkevari, said that Khamenei’s name would continue as Iran’s leader.
- Donald Trump warned on Sunday that Iran’s next Supreme Leader would not remain in power for long without his approval.
- Israel also said that its forces would not hesitate to target the new leader and also the members of the council responsible for confirming him.
- As the conflict entered its ninth day, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had enough supplies to continue its drone and missile attacks across West Asia for up to six months.
- The Revolutionary Guards also said that Iran had so far used only first- and second-generation missiles, but more advanced long-range missiles would be used soon.
- Israel showed its military reach by carrying out two important operations overnight.
- The first was air strikes on fuel depots in and around Tehran, and the second was an attack on a hotel in central Beirut, Lebanon.
- Israeli warplanes attacked five oil facilities near the Iranian capital during the night. According to the CEO of the national oil products distribution company, four people were killed in these strikes.
- The Governor of Tehran told the Islamic Republic News Agency that fuel distribution in the city had been temporarily disrupted because of these attacks.
- The Iranian President again warned that the country would respond if neighbouring territories were used to launch attacks against Iran.
- At the same time, Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted many drones, Kuwait reported that fuel tanks at its international airport were hit, Bahrain said a water desalination plant was damaged, and the United Arab Emirates said it successfully blocked incoming missiles.
Delhi civic body demolishes ‘illegal sections’ of accused’s house in Holi clash case
- On Sunday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) demolished illegal portions of a house connected to one of the accused in the murder of 26-year-old Tarun Bhutolia.
- The incident happened during Holi celebrations on March 4 in south-west Uttam Nagar.
- The fight reportedly started because of a water balloon thrown by a girl that accidentally hit a woman, which created tension between two families.
- The situation quickly became violent when members from both families came onto the street and started fighting.
- During this clash, Tarun Bhutolia lost his life.
- On Sunday, Delhi Police arrested the eighth accused, Imran alias Bunty (38), from his house in Uttam Nagar.
- So far, the police have arrested six other people — Umardeen (49), Jummadeen (36), Kamruddin (36), Mustaque (46), Muzzafar (25), and Tahir (18). A minor has also been detained in connection with the case.
- Later, the police added sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 to the FIR, because the victim belonged to a Dalit family.
- Earlier, the case was registered under Sections 103(1) (murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
- On Sunday evening, Tarun’s parents — Mamraj Bhutolia and Mamta Bhutolia — met Rekha Gupta at the Secretariat.
- According to their relative Jitendra Bhutolia, the Chief Minister assured the family of full support and promised that strict action would be taken against the accused.
- He said the parents were told that the government stands firmly with the family and will ensure justice.
- Jitendra Bhutolia also said that the family has been continuously grieving since the incident happened.
- He explained that the two families involved in the clash had known each other for many years.
- During the violence, several members of both families were injured.
- Tarun’s parents were also injured, with injuries on their face, arms, and other parts of the body.
- The victim’s family was also visited by Dinesh Khatik, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Uttar Pradesh, who said that the actions taken so far were not enough.
- He said that maximum resources would be used to ensure justice for the family.
- Earlier the same day, the Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive on the first and fourth floors of a building connected to Muzzafar, who was arrested on the same day as the incident.
- A senior MCD official said that the demolition was part of a routine anti-encroachment drive, and the building’s connection to the accused was only coincidental.
- The official explained that parts of the building had extended over a municipal drain, and the staircase was projecting nearly five feet onto the road.
- He clarified that only the portion built on municipal land was removed so that the drain could be cleared.
- When asked whether the owners were given notices before the demolition, the official said that notices are given when illegal construction is done on private land.
- However, he explained that if a structure is built on government land, there is no rule that requires prior notice before demolition.
- After the incident, the area remained under heavy police security.
- Several streets were blocked, and police barricades were placed in many places.
- Political leaders and different organisations gathered at the victim’s house.
- Many local residents complained that they could not reach their homes because of the heavy police presence and barricading in the area.
