  • Joseph Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and popular actor, aged 52, took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday morning. His swearing-in marked a major political change in the State, where Dravidian parties had dominated politics since 1967.

  • Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya invited him to form the new government after he led the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance team to the Lok Bhavan to officially stake claim.
  • This happened after Mr. Sarma was elected leader of the NDA in the 126-member Assembly.
  • The swearing-in ceremony of the new Council of Ministers will take place on Tuesday.
  • The newly elected MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its regional allies — Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front — selected their leader in the morning meeting.
