• Although the inflation in cereals witnessed a marginally slower rating than the last month’s data. The inflation in the prices of cereal is at 7.6 percent in the month of February whereas it was 7.83 percent in the month of January.
• Cereals is the largest weight in the food sub group in the consumer price index.
• Highly consumed vegetables potato,onion and tomato are continuously witnessing high inflation rate and they contribute more than a third of the weight in the category.
• The three month ban on the export of onions has impacted the price as the prices have faced little cooling.
• The production of these vegetables is projected to be lower than last year as the production of onions this year is projected to be 15.6 percent lower than last year.
• For inclusive and sustainable growth the inflation rate needs to be restrained.
