DRDO Successfully Completes First Trials of Indigenous Integrated Air Defence System

- The IADWS is a multi-layered defence system that brings together three key indigenous weapons – the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), the Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS), and a high-energy laser weapon known as the Directed Energy Weapon.
- All these weapons work together through a Centralised Command and Control Centre, which was also developed by DRDO. This centre is like the brain of the system, controlling and coordinating all operations.
- During the trial, three targets were attacked at the same time – two high-speed unmanned planes and one multi-copter drone. The missiles and laser weapons hit and destroyed all three, showing the system’s quick response.
