Cabinet Approves Kerala’s 583-km High-Speed Rail Corridor
- After the Central government showed interest in a new high-speed rail project for Kerala, the State Cabinet met on Wednesday and gave in-principle approval for a 583-kilometre Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project.
- The project will connect Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod.
- Earlier, the Centre had said it would support the project, but only after the State submits a detailed project report (DPR).
- Following the Cabinet decision, the Kerala government will send a formal letter to the Centre expressing its willingness to move forward with the project.
- The Cabinet has also asked the Transport Department to begin discussions and consultations related to the project.
- Once talks with the Centre are completed and in-principle approval is received, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed.
