 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Emulated (verb)

Meaning: match or surpass (a person or achievement), typically by imitation (नकल)

Synonyms: imitate, copy, mirror

Antonyms: neglect, be original

Sentence: They hope to emulate the success of other software companies.

  1. Unbeknownst (adj.)

Meaning: happening or existing without one’s knowledge (अनजान)

Synonyms: unknown, unaware, unfamiliar

Sentence: Unbeknownst to me, my mother was planning a party

  1. Fakery (noun)

Meaning: the inclination or practice of misleading others through lies or trickery (जालसाजी)

Synonyms: deception, deceit, fraud

Antonyms: sincerity, good faith, artlessness

Sentence: If the product were any good, the company wouldn’t have to resort to fakery to get people to buy it.

  1. Garnering (verb)

Meaning: to bring together in one body or place (एकत्रित)

Synonyms: collecting, assembling, gatheringc

Antonyms: dispersing, scattering, dissipating

Sentence: An array of rock bands garnered from all over the country by the promoters of the festival.

  1. Permeates (verb)

Meaning: to spread throughout (फैल जाना)

Synonyms: suffuses, penetrates, pervades

Sentence: The smell of freshly baked bread permeated the house.

  1. Deranged (adj.)

Meaning: having or showing a very abnormal or sick state of mind (विक्षिप्त)

Synonyms: psychotic, lunatic, insane

Antonyms: sane, sound, balanced

Sentence: A deranged prisoner who had been in that rat-infested hole for 20 years.

  1. Rapprochement (noun)

Meaning: a friendly relationship marked by ready communication and mutual understanding (मेल-मिलाप)

Synonyms: friendship, solidarity, communion

Antonyms: alienation, estrangement, disaffection

Sentence: An era of rapprochement between Mexico and the U.S. that was highlighted by a new trade agreement.

  1. Wrath (noun)

Meaning: extreme anger (chiefly used for humorous or rhetorical effect) (क्रोध)

Synonyms: anger, rage, fury

Antonyms: delight, pleasure, calmness

Sentence: He hid his mobile for fear of incurring his father’s wrath

  1. Pretence (noun)

Meaning: the quality or state of appearing or trying to appear more important or more valuable than is the case (दिखावा)

Synonyms: affectation, pretension, inflation

Antonyms: humility, modesty, meekness

Sentence: She seemed to be a very down-to-earth woman who was completely free of Pretence.

  1. Reliant (adj.)

Meaning: dependent on someone or something. (निर्भर)

Synonyms: dependent, hopeful, naïve

Antonyms: doubtful, distrustful, mistrustful

Sentence: The charity is completely reliant on public donations.
