‘Vocabulary’
- Obtrude (verb)
Meaning: become noticeable in an unwelcome or intrusive way. (हस्तक्षेप करना)
Synonyms: intrude, meddle, interfere
Antonyms: disregard, ignore, neglect
Sentence: I don’t want to obtrude upon her privacy.
- Contrite (adj.)
Meaning: feeling or expressing remorse or penitence; affected by guilt. (पछताया हुआ)
Synonyms: remorseful, repentant, penitent
Antonyms: impenitent, remorseless, unapologetic
Sentence: She was contrite the morning after her angry outburst.
- Decimation (noun)
Meaning: the state or fact of being rendered non-existent (बरबादी)
Synonyms: annihilation, demolishment, demolition
Antonyms: building, construction, protection
Sentence: The virtual decimation of the coastal town was caused by the hurricane.
- Impetuous (adj.)
Meaning: acting or done quickly and without thought or care. (अविवेकी)
Synonyms: impulsive, rash, hasty
Antonyms: careful, cautious, heedful
Sentence: He’s always been an impetuous young man, rushing into things without asking questions first.
- Convalesce (verb)
Meaning: recover one’s health and strength over a period of time after an illness or operation. (अच्छा हो जाना)
Synonyms: recuperate, get better, recover
Antonyms: ail, collapse, sicken
Sentence: The long months that the soldier spent in the hospital slowly convalescing.
- Harangue (noun)
Meaning: a lengthy and aggressive speech. (भाषण)
Synonyms: tirade, lecture, diatribe
Sentence: They were subjected to a ten-minute harangue by two border guards.
- Zestful (adj.)
Meaning: characterized by great enthusiasm and energy. (दिलचस्प)
Synonyms: interesting, enthralling, engrossing
Antonyms: boring, drab, tedious
Sentence: Books are friends who are not zestful, but faithful.
- Exchequer (noun)
Meaning: a royal or national treasury. (कोष)
Synonyms: reserve, resources, savings
Sentence: There’s nothing left in the exchequer this month.
- Rubric (noun)
Meaning: a word or series of words often in larger letters placed at the beginning of a passage or at the top of a page in order to introduce or categorize (शीर्ष)
Synonyms: caption, head, header
Sentence: The rubrics at the beginning of the chapters are intended to be humorous.
- Unassailable (adj.)
Meaning: unable to be attacked, questioned, or defeated. (अभेद्य)
Synonyms: impregnable, invulnerable, impenetrable
Antonyms: blasphemous, irreverent, profane
Sentence: That is one of the unassailable beliefs of that political party.
