 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Juvenescence (noun)

Meaning: the state or period of being young. (किशोरावस्था)

Synonyms: adolescence, youth, juvenility

Antonyms: adulthood, old

Sentence: We are glad they have picked up something during their prolonged juvenescence.

  1. Felicitate (verb)

Meaning: to express to (someone) admiration for his or her success or good fortune (अभिनंदन करना)

Synonyms: compliment, congratulate, applaud

Antonyms: cry down, decry, deprecate

Sentence: The whole family felicitated John on his new appointment.

  1. Counterfeiting (verb)

Meaning: to imitate or copy especially in order to deceive (जालसाजी)

Synonyms: fake, forge, copy

Sentence: They were arrested on a charge of counterfeiting.

  1. Subjugate (verb)

Meaning: bring under domination or control, especially by conquest. (अधीन करना)

Synonyms: subdue, conquer, dominate

Antonyms: liberate, emancipate, enfranchise

Sentence: He draws on subterranean forces to subjugate and control

  1. Lavishly (adv.)

Meaning: in a sumptuously rich, elaborate, or luxurious manner. (शान शौकत)

Synonyms: expensively, luxuriously

Antonyms: austerely, modestly, simply

Sentence: He went on spending lavishly until his money was at the end.

  1. Heyday (noun)

Meaning: the period of a person’s or thing’s greatest success, popularity, or vigor. (उमंग का समय)

Synonyms: prime, peak, pinnacle

Antonyms: decline, downfall

Sentence: Docklands in its heyday was a major centre of industrial and commercial activity.

  1. Glossary (noun)

Meaning: an alphabetical list of terms or words found in or relating to a specific subject, text, or dialect, with explanations; a brief dictionary. (शब्दकोष)

Synonyms: dictionaries, wordbooks, catalogues

Sentence: The book includes a glossary of financial terms.

  1. Supine (adj.)

Meaning: lacking the ability or will to act on one’s own (कमज़ोर)

Synonyms: weak, feeble, yielding

Antonyms: powerful, puissant, strong

Sentence: They blamed the disaster on supine politicians who allowed large corporations to flout regulations.

  1. Demarcate (verb)

Meaning: to mark the limits of (निर्धारित करना)

Synonyms: bound, circumscribe, delimit

Sentence: A bright yellow line demarcated the county on the road map.

  1. Sequestered (adj.)

Meaning: (of a place) isolated and hidden away. (एकान्त)

Synonyms: secluded, cloistered, hidden away

Antonyms: desegregate, integrate, assimilate

Sentence: I found a sequestered spot at the bottom of the garden and lay down with my book.
