‘Vocabulary’
- Circumvent (verb)
Meaning: find a way around (an obstacle). (गतिरोध उत्पन्न)
Synonyms: avoid, get around, find a way around
Antonyms: confront, face, meet
Sentence: If you come to an obstruction in a road you can seek to circumvent it.
- Demarcation (noun)
Meaning: the action of fixing the boundary or limits of something. (सरहदबंदी)
Synonyms: separation, distinction, division
Sentence: Talks were continuing about the demarcation of the border between the two countries.
- Garner (verb)
Meaning: gather or collect (something, especially information or approval). (इकट्ठा करना)
Synonyms: gather, collect, accumulate
Antonyms: disintegrate, dissolve, separate
Sentence: A prisoner garnering food bit by bit and hiding it in his pillow.
- Fathoming (verb)
Meaning: understand (a difficult problem or an enigmatic person) after much thought. (थाह लेना)
Synonyms: understand, comprehend, work out
Sentence: He couldn’t fathom why she was being so anxious.
- Disdainful (adj.)
Meaning: showing contempt or lack of respect. (घृणा-युक्त)
Synonyms: contemptuous, scornful, derisive
Antonyms: admiring, applauding, appreciative
Sentence: With a last disdainful look, she turned toward the door.
- Braggart (noun)
Meaning: a person who boasts about achievements or possessions. (शेख़ीबाज़ मनुष्य)
Synonyms: boaster, brag, bragger
Antonyms: humble, modest, uncomplacent
Sentence: A braggart who was always talking about how much money he made.
- Conduit (noun)
Meaning: a channel for conveying water or other fluid. (पाइपलाइन)
Synonyms: channel, duct, pipe
Sentence: This is the major conduit for carrying water to the military base.
- Prevaricating (verb)
Meaning: speak or act in an evasive way. (पूर्ववर्ती)
Synonyms: be evasive, hedge, fence
Antonyms: assert, swear, testify
Sentence: He seemed to prevaricate when journalists asked pointed questions.
- Sturdy (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person or their body) strongly and solidly built. (तगड़ा)
Synonyms: strapping, muscular, athletic
Antonyms: delicate, nonhardy, weak
Sentence: He had a sturdy, muscular physique
- Delirious (adj.)
Meaning: in an acutely disturbed state of mind resulting from illness or intoxication and characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech. (भ्रांतचित्त)
Synonyms: incoherent, raving, babbling
Antonyms: tranquil, undisturbed
Sentence: He became delirious and couldn’t recognize people.
