‘Vocabulary’
- Bungling (adj.)
Meaning: making or characterized by many clumsy mistakes. (गोलमाल)
Synonyms: incompetent, blundering, amateurish
Antonyms: adroit, deft, dexterous
Sentence: If he keeps bungling, he’ll lose the job.
- Globetrotting (noun)
Meaning: the action of traveling widely around the world. (विश्वयात्रा)
Synonyms: voyage, travel
Sentence: The Prime Minister’s globetrotting has led to accusations that he is ignoring domestic problems.
- Dour (adj.)
Meaning: relentlessly severe, stern, or gloomy in manner or appearance. (कठोर)
Synonyms: stern, unsmiling, unfriendly
Antonyms: benign, friendly, gentle
Sentence: No wonder he looked so dour.
- Scurrilous (adj.)
Meaning: making or spreading scandalous claims about someone with the intention of damaging their reputation. (मिथ्या)
Synonyms: abusive, vituperative, derogatory
Antonyms: respectful, polite, gracious
Sentence: He wrote a scurrilous piece about me in the local press.
- Entente (noun)
Meaning: a friendly understanding or informal alliance between states or factions. (अंतंत)
Synonyms: understanding, agreement, alliance
Sentence: The two leaders signed a treaty of entente and cooperation.
- Scrimmage (noun)
Meaning: a confused struggle or fight. (धक्का मुक्की)
Synonyms: fight, battle, struggle
Antonyms: truce, accord, peace
Sentence: There was a considerable scrimmage, with people anxious to obtain cabs.
- Virtuoso (noun)
Meaning: a person highly skilled in music or another artistic pursuit. (कलाप्रवीण व्यक्ति)
Synonyms: genius, expert, prodigy
Antonyms: amateur, amateurish, inexperienced
Sentence: He was gaining a reputation as a remarkable virtuoso.
- Rebuts (verb)
Meaning: claim or prove that (evidence or an accusation) is false. (खंडन)
Synonyms: deny, negate, deflate
Antonyms: allow, agree, abet
Sentence: He had to rebut charges of acting for the convenience of his political friends.
- Anathema (noun)
Meaning: something or someone that one vehemently dislikes. (अभिशाप)
Synonyms: abhorrent, hateful, odious
Antonyms: joy, pleasure
Sentence: His political views were anathema to me.
- Locution (noun)
Meaning: a word or phrase, especially with regard to style or idiom. (मुहावरा)
Synonyms: denotation, expression, idiom
Sentence: His locution puzzled me, disturbed me, but I was a guest at his table so I said nothing.
