 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Flump (verb)

Meaning: to throw or set down clumsily or casually (गिराना)

Synonyms: plop, toss, flop

Sentence: The rock fell from the ground with a flump

  1. Abnegate (verb)

Meaning: to give up (as a position of authority) formally (त्याग करना)

Synonyms: relinquish, abdicate, resign

Antonyms: assume, claim, appropriate

Sentence: To abnegate yourself is the best way to get close to yourself.

  1. Glom (verb)

Meaning: to take physical control or possession of (something) suddenly or forcibly (हावी होना)

Synonyms: grab, get, land

Antonyms: miss, release, free

Sentence: The antibodies glom onto the virus and destroy it.

  1. Corollary (noun)

Meaning: a condition or occurrence traceable to a cause (परिणाम)

Synonyms: outcome, resultant, consequence

Antonyms: reason, cause, factor

Sentence: One corollary of the rise of television was a massive makeover of radio’s programming

  1. Divulge (verb)

Meaning: to make known (as information previously kept secret) (प्रकाशित करना)

Synonyms: disclose, reveal, discover

Antonyms: conceal, hide, overshadow

Sentence: It is not company policy to divulge personal details of employees.

  1. Satire (verb)

Meaning: a creative work that use sharp humour to point up the foolishness of a person, institution, or human nature in general (हास्य व्यंग्य)

Synonyms: parody, spoof, comedy

Sentence: A satire about the music industry in which a handsome but untalented youth is turned into a pop star

  1. Apotheosis (noun)

Meaning: the most perfect type or example (गुणगान)

Synonyms: manifestation, incarnation, classic

Antonyms: imperfection, worst, common

Sentence: The legend of King Arthur represents the apotheosis of chivalry.

  1. Irrefragable (adj.)

Meaning: not capable of being challenged or proved wrong (अखंडनीय)

Synonyms: irrefutable, incontrovertible, conclusive

Antonyms: problematical, problematic, arguable

Sentence: The prosecutor painstakingly built an irrefragable case

  1. Inimical (adj.)

Meaning: marked by opposition or ill will (विरोधी)

Synonyms: hostile, negative, adverse

Antonyms: sympathetic, friendly, hospitable

Sentence: Received an inimical response rather than the anticipated support

  1. Lilt (noun)

Meaning: the attractive quality of speech or music that rises and falls in a pleasing pattern (मधुरता)

Synonyms: accent, cadence, rhythm

Sentence: Many of his patriotic songs have a stirring lilt.
