 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Bibliography (noun)

Meaning: a list of the books referred to in a scholarly work, typically printed as an appendix. (ग्रन्थसूची)

Synonyms: list of references, book list, catalog

Sentence: The instructor provided the students with an excellent bibliography on local history.

  1. Stature (noun)

Meaning: the distance of something or someone from the bottom to top. (ऊंचाई)

Synonyms: altitude, elevation, height

Sentence: He saw a man of great stature

  1. Purlieu (noun)

Meaning: the area near or surrounding a place. (क्षेत्र)

Synonyms: vicinity, neighborhood, outskirts

Sentence: We stopped at one of the several pubs in the purlieus of the stadium.

  1. Interminable (adj.)

Meaning: endless (often used hyperbolically). (अनंत)

Synonyms: seemingly endless, endless, never-ending

Antonyms: intermittent, periodic

Sentence: The journey seemed interminable.

  1. Trouncing (verb)

Meaning: defeat heavily in a contest. (पूरी तरह से हार)

Synonyms: defeat utterly, beating, defeat

Antonyms: success, triumph, victory

Sentence: She trounced her rivals in the election.

  1. Scintillate (verb)

Meaning: emit flashes of light; sparkle. (चमकना)

Synonyms: spark, sparkle, shine

Antonyms: dark, dim

Sentence: The diamond ring is scintillated in the sunlight.

  1. Bevy (noun)

Meaning: a large group of people or things of a particular kind. (झुंड)

Synonyms: group, crowd, cluster

Antonyms: piece, portion, section

Sentence: A bevy of bureaucrats is involved.

  1. Tactless (adj.)

Meaning: having or showing a lack of adroitness and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues. (उद्दंड)

Synonyms: insensitive, inconsiderate, thoughtless

Antonyms: judicious, prudent, tactful

Meaning: the quality or fact of being greater in number, quantity, or importance. (प्रधानता)

Synonyms: prevalence, predominance, dominance

Antonyms: insignificance, inferiority, mediocrity

Sentence: The preponderance of evidence suggests that he’s guilty.

  1. Provenance (noun)

Meaning: the place of origin or earliest known history of something. (उत्पत्ति)

Synonyms: origin, source, place of origin

Sentence: The provenance of the paintings is unknown.
