‘Vocabulary’

  1. Notorious (Adj.) – Trick: Note + Tore

Meaning: well known for something bad (कुख्यात)

Synonyms: Disgraceful, Infamous, Shady

Antonyms: Honourable, Reputable, Respectable

Sentence: He is notorious for her wild behaviour.

  1. Glare (adj.) – Trick: Glow

Meaning: to look somebody in anger/ Strong light (चमक)

Synonyms: Blaze, Flare, Glow

Antonyms: Dark, Gloom, Grin

Sentence: She gave me a fierce glare.

  1. Lurch (noun) – Trick: Leach

Meaning: A sudden movement forward or to one side (अचानक एक ओर को लड़खड़ाहट)

Synonyms: Careen, Pitch, Roll, Sway, Washout

Antonyms: Success, Triumph, Win, Stable

Sentence: The room suddenly began to lurch and sway due to the earthquake.

  1. Subvert – Trick: Sub + Vrat

Meaning: to try to destroy or damage something (पलट देना)

Synonyms: Down fall, Abase, Canker

Antonyms: Exalt, Honour, Dignify

Sentence: The rebel army is attempting to subvert the government.

  1. Nostalgia (Noun)Trick: No + Hostel + Gia

Meaning: A feeling of pleasure mixed with sadness, when you think of happy times in past (भूतकाल की किसी अवधि की याद)

Synonyms: Remembrance, recollection

Antonyms: Eager, Hard- edged, Cynical

Sentence: She was suddenly filled with nostalgia for her hostel days.

  1. Absurd (Noun) – Trick: Ab + Saad/ Surd

Meaning: Not at all logical or sensible (बेतुका)

Synonyms: Ridiculous, Bizarre, Crazy

Antonyms: Realistic, Reasonable

Sentence: It would be absurd to spend all money on one laptop.

  1. Subvention (Noun) – Trick: Support + Invention

Meaning: A grant of money (financial aid) especially from Govt. (आर्थिक सहायता)

Synonyms: Allocation, Aid, Assistance, Grant

Antonyms: Denial, Refusal, Repudiation

Sentence: The NGO is funded by an annual subvention from the government.

  1. Slump (verb) – Trick: Slum

Meaning: to fall suddenly and by a large amount

Synonyms: Depressing, Recession, Crash

Antonyms: Development, growth, Advancement

Sentence: What causes the price of Real Estate slump?

  1. Abject (adj.) – Trick: Reject

Meaning: Terrible or without hope/ without any pride (हतोत्साह)

Synonyms: Slavish, Lowly, Sycophant

Antonyms: Arrogant, Superior

Sentence: They live in abject poverty.

  1. Subservient (adj.) – Trick: Sub + servant

Meaning: Compliant and obedient to authority (अधीन)

Synonyms: Subordinate, Amenable, Docile

Antonyms: Contrary, Disobedient, Unruly

Sentence: His wife refused to accept a traditional subservient.
