 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Seasoned (adj.)

Meaning: accustomed to particular conditions; experienced. (अनुभवी)

Synonyms: veteran, experienced, skilled

Antonyms: inexperienced, incompetent

Sentence: She’s a seasoned concert performer.

  1. Abridgement (noun)

Meaning: a shortened version of a written work (संक्षिप्तीकरण)

Synonyms: overview, abstract, summation

Antonyms: expansion, enlargement

Sentence: An abridgement of the book has been published for young readers.

  1. Trumpeted (verb)

Meaning: to make known openly or publicly (घोषणा करना)

Synonyms: announced, published, proclaimed

Antonyms: withheld, suppressed, concealed

Sentence: We trumpeted our triumph all over the school.

  1. Befuddled (adj.)

Meaning: unable to think clearly; confused or perplexed. (उलझना)

Synonyms: bewildered, confused, dazed

Antonyms: clearheaded, conscious

Sentence: Even in my befuddled state I could find my key.

  1. Alms (noun)

Meaning: a gift of money or its equivalent to a charity, humanitarian cause, or public institution (दान)

Synonyms: donation, contribution, benefaction

Sentence: It was their religious duty to give alms to the poor.

  1. Abrogated (verb)

Meaning: to put an end to by formal action (अभिनिषेध करना)

Synonyms: abolish, repeal, cancel

Antonyms: enact, establish, legislate

Sentence: Both governments voted to abrogate the treaty.

  1. Imperative (adj.)

Meaning: of vital importance; crucial. (अनिवार्य)

Synonyms: incumbent, mandatory, necessary

Antonyms: unnecessary, needless, unimportant

Sentence: It is imperative that politicians should be good communicators.

  1. Imputation (noun)

Meaning: a charge or claim that someone has done something undesirable; an accusation. (इलज़ाम)

Synonyms: allegation, accusation, indictment,

Sentence: There are grounds for inquiring into the imputations of misconduct against him.

  1. Outskirts (noun)

Meaning: the outer parts of a town or city. (उपनगर)

Synonyms: outlying districts, purlieu, suburb

Antonyms: inner city, midtown

Sentence: They live on the outskirts of Bangalore.

  1. Flitting (verb)

Meaning: to make an irregular series of quick, sudden movements (झटपट चल पड़ना)

Synonyms: darting, fluttering, wandering

Sentence: Bargain hunters at the flea market flitted from table to table like hummingbirds in a garden.
