‘Vocabulary’
- Suffice (verb)
Meaning: be enough or adequate. (पर्याप्त)
Synonyms: be enough, be sufficient, be adequate
Antonyms: deficit, inadequacy, insufficiency
Sentence: Two bottles of wine will suffice for lunch.
- Falter (verb)
Meaning: start to lose strength or momentum. (लड़खड़ाना)
Synonyms: hesitate, delay, drag one’s feet
Antonyms: decide, budge, stir
Sentence: The economy is beginning to falter.
- Tardy (adj.)
Meaning: delaying or delayed beyond the right or expected time; late. (विलम्बी)
Synonyms: late, unpunctual, behind time
Antonyms: punctual, timely
Sentence: The boss is unsatisfied with the tardy tempo.
- Galore (adj.)
Meaning: in abundance. (बहुतायत)
Synonyms: aplenty, in abundance, in profusion
Antonyms: bare, minimal, scant
Sentence: There are book-shop galore in this town.
- Grubby (adj.)
Meaning: dirty; grimy. (गंदा)
Synonyms: filthy, unwashed, stained
Antonyms: clean, stainless, ultraclean
Sentence: He was wearing some old shorts and a grubby T-shirt.
- Crux (noun)
Meaning: the decisive or most important point at issue. (जड़)
Synonyms: core, essence, most important point
Sentence: The crux of the matter is that attitudes have changed.
- Excruciating (adj.)
Meaning: intensely painful. (कष्टदायी)
Synonyms: agonizing, extremely painful, severe
Antonyms: comfortable, cozy, bearable
Sentence: He died after five days of excruciating torture.
- Gargantuan (adj.)
Meaning: unusually large (विशाल)
Synonyms: enormous, extremely big, extremely large
Antonyms: little, mini, petite
Sentence: Of all her mistakes, this was the most gargantuan.
- Adroitness (noun)
Meaning: cleverness or skill. (चतुराई)
Synonyms: skill, skilfulness, prowess
Antonyms: inadequacy, incompetency, ineptitude
Sentence: He governed with an adroitness that gained him the nickname “the old fox”.
- Squabble (noun)
Meaning: a noisy quarrel about something petty or trivial. (झगड़ा)
Synonyms: quarrel, fight, argument
Antonyms: peace, agreement, harmony
Sentence: Frightened by the noise of the squabble, the cat hid under the couch.
