 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Bravado (noun)

Meaning: a bold manner or a show of boldness intended to impress or intimidate. (वाहवाही)

Synonyms: boldness, bold manner, swagger

Antonyms: bashfulness, demureness, retiringness

Sentence: Their behavior was just sheer bravado.

  1. Freebie (noun)

Meaning: a thing given free of charge. (मुफ्त)

Synonyms: bequest, favor, present

Antonyms: bribe, douceur

Sentence: The journalists were all given a freebie lunch.

  1. Raillery (noun)

Meaning: good-humored teasing. (मज़ाक)

Synonyms: teasing, chaff, banter

Sentence: She was greeted with raillery from her fellow workers.

  1. Eulogistic (adj.)

Meaning: show approval or praise (प्रशंसात्मक)

Synonyms: admiring, applauding, appreciative

Antonyms: adverse, depreciative, depreciatory

  1. Munificence (noun)

Meaning: the quality or action of being lavishly generous; great generosity. (उदारता)

Synonyms: generosity, bountifulness, magnanimity

Antonyms: mercilessness, pitilessness, ruthlessness

Sentence: I thanked them for their munificence.

  1. Insatiable (adj.)

Meaning: incapable of being satisfied (अतोषणीय)

Synonyms: inappeasable, inextinguishable, insatiate

Antonyms: appeasable, extinguishable, satiable

Sentence: Most children have an insatiable desire for knowledge.

  1. Pestered (verb)

Meaning: trouble or annoy (someone) with frequent or persistent requests or interruptions. (सताया)

Synonyms: badger, hound, annoy

Antonyms: delighted, pleased

Sentence: He’d been pestered by reporters for days.

  1. Rigmarole (noun)

Meaning: a lengthy and complicated procedure. (बेसिरपैर की बात)

Synonyms: double-talk, gibberish

Sentence: He went through the rigmarole of securing the front door.

  1. Reverence (noun)

Meaning: deep respect for someone or something. (श्रद्धा)

Synonyms: high esteem, high regard, great respect

Antonyms: blaspheme, desecrate, profane

Sentence: Children are taught to show respect and reverence towards their grandparents.

  1. Opprobrious (adj.)

Meaning: (of language) expressing scorn or criticism. (अपमानजनक)

Synonyms: abusive, vituperative, derogatory

Antonyms:  respectful, civil, courteous

Sentence: An opprobrious attack on the alleged corruption in the police department.
