‘Vocabulary’
- Manifold (adj.)
Meaning: many and various (विविध)
Synonyms: many, numerous, multiple
Antonyms: one, single, less
Sentence: The City Council has a manifold plan to beautify the city.
- Pendulous (adj.)
Meaning: hanging down loosely. (दुविधा में पड़ा हुआ)
Synonyms: undecided, unconvincing, indeterminate
Antonyms: unbending, upright
Sentence: He wanted to hang a pendulous lamp on the ceiling.
- Luscious (adj.)
Meaning: (of food or wine) having a pleasingly rich, sweet taste. (सुस्वाद)
Synonyms: delicious, succulent, lush
Antonyms: distasteful, flavorless, insipid
Sentence: These items offer both texture and luscious flavor.
- Defiance (noun)
Meaning: open resistance; bold disobedience. (अवज्ञा)
Synonyms: resistance, opposition, confrontation
Antonyms: compliance, obedience, submission
Sentence: The demonstration was held in defiance of official warnings.
- Infidel (noun)
Meaning: a person who does not believe in religion or who adheres to a religion other than one’s own. (नास्तिक)
Synonyms: nonbeliever, heathen, pagan
Antonyms: believer, conformer, conformist
Sentence: They wanted to secure the Holy Places from the infidel.
- Adversary (noun)
Meaning: one’s opponent in a contest, conflict, or dispute. (विरोधी)
Synonyms: opponent, rival, enemy
Antonyms: partner, hospitable, friend
Sentence: Davis beat his old adversary in the quarterfinals.
- Conundrum (noun)
Meaning: a confusing and difficult problem or question. (पहेली)
Synonyms: problem, difficult question, vexed question
Sentence: This is not merely a curious conundrum.
- Condone (verb)
Meaning: accept and allow (behavior that is considered morally wrong or offensive) to continue. (माफ करना)
Synonyms: deliberately ignore, disregard, take no notice of
Antonyms: heed, mark, mind
Sentence: The state does not condone violence.
- Transient (adj.)
Meaning: lasting only for a short time. (अनित्य)
Synonyms: momentary, adventitious, sliding
Antonyms: deathless, lasting, immortal
Sentence: These exploits, however, were transient in their effects.
- Gargantuan (adj.)
Meaning: unusually large (विशाल)
Synonyms: enormous, extremely big, extremely large
Antonyms: little, mini, petite
Sentence: Of all her mistakes, this was the most gargantuan.
