 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Bevy (noun)

Meaning: a large group of people or things of a particular kind. (झुंड)

Synonyms: group, crowd, cluster

Antonyms: piece, portion, section

Sentence: A bevy of bureaucrats is involved.

  1. Enigma (noun)

Meaning: a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. (रहस्य)

Synonyms: mystery, puzzle, riddle

Sentence: How Thomas Jefferson could be both a slaveholder and a champion of liberty remains an enigma.

  1. Populace (noun)

Meaning: the people living in a particular country or area. (आबादी)

Synonyms: population, inhabitants, residents

Sentence: Many of the city’s populace travel to work by subway or bus.

  1. Quotidian (adj.)

Meaning: of or occurring every day; daily. (दैनिक)

Synonyms: daily, day-to-day, diurnal

Antonyms: monthly, weekly, yearly

Sentence: Television has become part of our quotidian existence.

  1. Impish (adj.)

Meaning: inclined to do slightly naughty things for fun; mischievous. (शरारती)

Synonyms: mischievous, naughty, wicked

Antonyms: sedate, sober

Sentence: The group of impish children ran into the street, utterly oblivious to the traffic.

  1. Perpetuity (noun)

Meaning: the state or quality of lasting forever. (अनंत काल)

Synonyms: eternity, everlasting, limitlessness

Antonyms: ephemerality, impermanence, temporariness

Sentence: These lands were granted to our family in perpetuity.

  1. Furtive (adj.)

Meaning: attempting to avoid notice or attention, typically because of guilt or a belief that discovery would lead to trouble; secretive. (गुप्त रूप से)

Synonyms: secretive, secret, surreptitious

Antonyms: public, overt, acknowledged

Sentence: The secretary looked almost furtive when I walked in.

  1. Vicious (adj.)

Meaning: deliberately cruel or violent. (बुरा)

Synonyms: brutal, ferocious, ruthless

Antonyms: humane, kind, merciful

Sentence: Vicious thugs attacked an elderly man.

  1. Scantily (adv.)

Meaning: in a way that is small or insufficient in quantity or amount. (थोड़े में)

Synonyms: barely, hardly, slightly

Antonyms: abundantly, plentifully, entirely

Sentence: The bedroom was scantily furnished.

  1. Impregnable (adj.)

Meaning: (of a fortified position) unable to be captured or broken into. (अभेद्य)

Synonyms: invulnerable, impenetrable, unattackable

Antonyms: passable, penetrable, permeable

Sentence: The lofty walls of the castle seemed impregnable.
