‘Vocabulary’
- Coercive (adj.)
Meaning: relating to or using force or threats (बलपूर्वक)
Synonyms: enforced, insistent, persistent
Antonyms: dispensable, unnecessary, unneeded
Sentence: The president relied on the coercive powers of the military.
- Preclude (verb)
Meaning: prevent from happening; make impossible (रोकना)
Synonyms: prevent, stop, block
Antonyms: allow, permit, allow
Sentence: The secret nature of his work precluded official recognition.
- Cordial (adj.)
Meaning: warm and friendly (मैत्रीपूर्ण)
Synonyms: friendly, warm, genial
Antonyms: hostile, unfriendly, aggressive
Sentence: The atmosphere was cordial and relaxed.
- Reiterate (verb)
Meaning: say something again or a number of times, typically for emphasis or clarity (बार बार दुहराना)
Synonyms: repeat, say again, restate
Sentence: She reiterated that the administration would remain steadfast in its support.
- Contentious (adj.)
Meaning: causing or likely to cause an argument (विवादास्पद)
Synonyms: controversial, disputable, debatable
Antonyms: nonbelligerent, pacific, peaceable
Sentence: She has some rather contentious views on education.
- Stinking (adj.)
Meaning: foul-smelling (बदबूदार)
Synonyms: malodorous, pungent, smelly
Antonyms: fragrant, perfumed, redolent
Sentence: He was locked in a stinking cell.
- Fugitive (noun)
Meaning: a person who has escaped from a place or is in hiding, especially to avoid arrest or persecution (भगोड़ा)
Synonyms: escapee, absconder, deserter
Antonyms: immobile, static
Sentence: The fugitive had spent five weeks in hiding.
- Untenable (adj.)
Meaning: (especially of a position or view) not able to be maintained or defended against attack or objection (अस्थिर, असमर्थनीय)
Synonyms: indefensible, undefendable, unarguable
Antonyms: cogent, compelling, rational
Sentence: This argument is clearly untenable.
- Assailants (noun)
Meaning: a person who physically attacks another (हमलावरों)
Synonyms: attacker, mugger, assaulter
Sentence: The police have no firm leads about the identity of his assailant.
- Trifle (noun)
Meaning: a thing of little value or importance (छोटी सी)
Synonyms: bauble, trinket, knickknack
Antonyms: valuable, possession
Sentence: We needn’t trouble the headmaster over such trifles.
