‘Vocabulary’
- Glossary (noun)
Meaning: an alphabetical list of terms or words found in or relating to a specific subject, text, or dialect, with explanations; a brief dictionary. (शब्दकोष)
Synonyms: dictionaries, wordbooks, catalogues
Sentence: The book includes a glossary of financial terms.
- Parlous (adj.)
Meaning: full of danger or uncertainty; precarious. (जोखिमी)
Synonyms: dangerous, grievous, hazardous
Antonyms: harmless, innocent, innocuous
Sentence: Window washing can indeed be a parlous occupation on a skyscraper.
- Disparaged (verb)
Meaning: regard or represent as being of little worth. (अपमानित करना)
Synonyms: denigrate, deprecate, depreciate
Antonyms: acclaimed, applauded, exalted
Sentence: Her bad behaviour has disparaged her whole family.
- Attrition (noun)
Meaning: a gradual weakening, loss, or destruction (धीरे-धीरे कमजोर होना)
Synonyms: weakening, debilitation, enfeebling
Antonyms: buildup, gain
Sentence: The council is trying to wear down the opposition by attrition.
- Derelict (adj.)
Meaning: in a very poor condition due to disuse and neglect. (त्याग किया हुआ)
Synonyms: dilapidated, ramshackle, neglecting
Antonyms: conscientious, nonnegligent
Sentence: He purchased an old derelict mansion that was rumored to be haunted.
- Prodigious (adj.)
Meaning: remarkably or impressively great in extent, size, or degree. (अद्भुत)
Synonyms: enormous, colossal, immense
Antonyms: unimpressive, common, ordinary
Sentence: What a prodigious opportunity you have missed.
- Balk (verb)
Meaning: to prevent from achieving a goal (बाधा डालना)
Synonyms: block, hinder, thwart
Antonyms: facilitate, assist, encourage
Sentence: Their strategies to balk at the enemy had failed.
- Pantomimed (verb)
Meaning: express or represent (something) by extravagant and exaggerated mime. (अभिव्यक्त करना)
Synonyms: gestured, signed, signalized
Sentence: The clown candidates pantomimed different emotions.
- Edify (verb)
Meaning: instruct or improve (someone) morally or intellectually. (उपदेश देना)
Synonyms: educate, instruct, teach
Antonyms: confuse, perplex, puzzle
Sentence: They tried to edify the child with music.
- Daze (verb)
Meaning: make (someone) unable to think or react properly; stupefy; bewilder. (मति-मंद करना)
Synonyms: stun, stupefy, dumbfound
Sentence: The fall daze him for a moment, causing him to become disoriented.
