‘Vocabulary’

  1. Feud (verb)

Meaning: take part in a prolonged quarrel or conflict. (झगड़ा)

Synonyms: quarrel, fight, argue

Antonyms: friendliness, sympathy, congeniality

Sentence: Because of a family feud, he never spoke to his wife’s parents for years.

  1. Perforate (verb)

Meaning: pierce and make a hole or holes in. (छिद्रित)

  1. Teeming (verb)

Meaning: be full of or swarming with. (भरा हुआ)

Synonyms: be full of, be filled with, be brimming with

Antonyms: blank, devoid, empty

Sentence: Every garden is teeming with wildlife.

  1. Oust (verb)

Meaning: drive out or expel (someone) from a position or place. (बाहर निकालना)

Synonyms: expel, force out, throw out

Antonyms: accept, admit, receive

Sentence: He ousted a long-term incumbent by only 500 votes.

  1. Secession (noun)

Meaning: the action of withdrawing formally from membership of a federation or body, especially a political state. (अपगमन)

Synonyms: withdrawal, break, breakaway

Antonyms: joining, unification

Sentence: The republics want secession from the union.

  1. Mettle (noun)

Meaning: a person’s ability to cope well with difficulties or to face a demanding situation in a spirited and resilient way. (उत्साह)

Synonyms: spirit, fortitude, tenacity

Antonyms: faintness, feebleness, frailness

Sentence: The team showed their true mettle in the second half.

  1. Tidings (noun)

Meaning: news; information. (ख़बर)

Synonyms: news, information, reports

Sentence: Have you heard the glad tidings?

  1. Bluster (noun)

Meaning: talk in a loud, aggressive, or indignant way with little effect. (धमकी)

Synonyms: rant, thunder, boast

Antonyms: quiet, silence, calm

Sentence: I knew that it was all bluster and he wasn’t really angry with me.

  1. Alacrity (noun)

Meaning: brisk and cheerful readiness. (तत्परता)

Synonyms: eagerness, willingness, readiness

Antonyms: lowness, sluggishness, apathy

Sentence: She accepted the invitation with alacrity.
